A young writer once asked Hemingway, "Are there ten books one should read to become a writer?" Hemingway replied, "Yes, there are such books." The young man took out his notebook to jot down the titles. Hemingway said, "Well, for you to find out which books are for you, you will have to read ten thousand books."📌 Ernest Hemingway's THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA is another timeless classic, The Old Man and the Sea, was written in the 1950s. As the title states, the novel follows an old fisherman's adventure at sea. The old man who could not catch a fish for eighty and four days went the next day with grit and determination and he caught a big fish. However, he was unable to carry it to shore, eventually. The old man gets dragged out extremely far, chasing the marlin. After several days, he eventually wins the battle with the giant fish, but he is so far from shore and without any food or water he struggles to make it back home with his prized catch. There are likely several themes attributed to the novel. The most obvious is that we can endure and survive beyond what we think we are limited to. With grit, with determination, we can ensure and persevere📌 He was not afraid of failure! He felt distress, but he didn't feel despair! He was never upset by his loss!
