Even though I love food, I don’t own many cookbooks, as I find most of my recipes online these days. And - I just like to own less ‘things’ in general. But I *love* turning the pages of a well-written and beautifully photographed cook book. Pardon the pun, but it’s food to my soul. This, here, is Erin French’s ‘The Lost Kitchen’. An eponym for her restaurant in Freedom, Maine where I dined last year with friends. The book brought me back there - cozy, inviting, comforting in all ways. We dined at a table with strangers, who, by the end of the night, were friends. And I remember distinctly Erin talking about how she found the *sweetest* corn for our soup that night. And how I told her that when she spoke about the ingredients and the meal she had prepared for us, that it was like she was talking about sex. I live for times like those where I am fully in the moment - enjoying food, friends, and feeling so incredibly grateful. And here now, I am sitting on my couch, remembering that night, feeling it in this book, and contemplating making this golden beet and buttermilk soup with the beets I bought at the farmer’s market this weekend. Food to my soul, indeed. // I highly recommend @thelostkitchen , and Maine in general. #ilovetoeat #maine #thelostkitchen #erinfrench
