Instead of lyrics, I give you my favourite John poem The Toy Boy.
In case you don't know, it's essentially about a boy's toys come to life and it starts out pretty cute and funny but -- then... Once the boy realises that something's not right with his toys he decides to tell his parents:
I think I ought to tell my dad. I have no secrets,” said the lad. “And Mother, she’s a right to see All this nonconformity.” So he went and told them all, And suddenly he felt so small, Because they took him in the car To see that awful Doctor Parr, Who certified him. There you are.
I wonder if that's how John felt as a child when he thought that "there was something wrong with me because I seemed to see things other people didn’t see".
The story was published in McCall's magazine and featured Robert Freeman's photo of John with the giant panda (I posted it here) and I think on the surface it's just cute & fitting but once you start psychoanalysing everything it's kinda sad.
On a lighter note, as a teeny girl I loved Out the Blue
All my life's been a long slow knife
I was born just to get to you
Anyway, I survived
Long enough to make you my wife
So romantic 🤧🥰😬
Omg thank you for sharing this Lace!! I didn't know that poem before but I LOVE IT!!!! (and will reblog as soon as I'm done typing this out)
Also I love Out The Blue it's I think my second-fave on Mind Games (and I think I always heard "long slow night" and now I like that lyric a lot more heheheh). It has a bit of an odd vibe but I still really really enjoy the song :D
