I still remember the first time I listened to a song of The Killers, I was at a bar with some friends, a local dj was playing and suddenly I was paying attention to some uncommon lyrics: “somebody told me you had a boyfriend, who looked like a girlfriend…” and you know the rest. At that exact moment my love for The Killers’ songs and melodies was born. That was more than 10 years ago, an indie rock band from Las Vegas, making their way to the mainstream. Now, in the 10th anniversary of Sam’s Town, they are a successful band known in, I would say, every country in the planet. Their sound has evolved a lot from Hot Fuss till Battle Born, but they have kept that essence and unique sound coming right from the desert.Â
They celebrated the 10th birthday of Sam’s Town by reissuing it in vinyl and hosting 2 concerts in no better place than the Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall in their hometown. I went to the 2nd night presentation and I was able to witness them play the entire album, plus all their other hits, including that cover of Joy Division’s Shadow Play. I also had a chance to listen a couple songs in semi-unplugged mode in their VIP pre-show. Here are some photos and short video of that and the main show.
