Summary: A lazy Sunday afternoon leads to Brandon writing one of the songs for his album
Sunday afternoons weâre my absolute favourite because me and Brandon would spend the time, curled up on the sofa together either watching a film, TV show or just doing our own thing in each otherâs company. This particular day, I was cuddled up to his side reading my book and he had his arm wrapped around me, keeping me against him as he was trying to think of lyrics for a solo album he was going to release, writing any ideas in the notes section in his phone, knowing that if he used a notebook heâd lose it somehow.
Even as I was reading, I could feel myself dozing off as a warm breeze blew through the house from the open windows, my cheek warm against Brandonâs shoulder and the steady rise and fall of his body as he breathed in and out. Every now and then I could hear frustrated sighs coming out of my boyfriendâs mouth as heâd hold his thumb on the backspace button to get rid of a lyric he wasnât happy with.
âHow are you getting on?â I asked gently, putting my book in my lap and looking up at him, my cheek still on his shoulder.
âSorry baby, did I interrupt you?â he apologised when he saw that I had put my book down, kissing my head before, looking back at his phone, âI just canât think of anything! I think Iâve got something so I write it down and then when I look back over it I decide that I hate it.â
I slowly moved my book off my lap, putting it on the sofa next to me before leaning over and taking Brandonâs phone from his hand, putting it next to my book and turning back to him, âyouâve been working on it too long, take a break and then come back to it when youâve had a chance to switch off.â
He nodded and pulled me into him tighter, stretching his body out next to me, âtalk to me,â he said, closing his eyes and leaning his head on the back of the sofa.
âAnything,â he said, eyes still closed, âhowâs your book?â
âYou want to hear about my book?â
âOkay?â I paused slightly as I looked back at my book, âwell itâs called How to Stop Time and itâs about this guy who just doesnât age and he lives forever. He fell in love with this girl in like plague times but she died and ever since he hasnât fallen in love with anyone else because no one compared to this one woman from hundreds of years ago and he still wants her. I just think itâs sweet.â
I looked over to Brandon to see he had a soft smile playing on his face as his head was still resting on the back of the sofa, âthatâs one of the sappiest things I think Iâve ever heard.â
âOh yeah?â I quickly moved so I was straddling his lap, his eyes opening and head lifting to look at me as his hands moved to my waist, keeping me steady. âAre you saying that you wouldnât want me in a hundred years?â
âIâd never say that,â he said, staring at me with complete admiration in his eyes.
âSo in a hundred years from now when Iâm really old,â
âIâd still want you,â he said leaning in and pecking my lips.
âAnd if I grew a tail?â
âIâd still want you.â
âIf I didnât like reading?â
âOh well that would be game over, weâd be done.â
âWhat,â I said, completely blindsided. Brandon took one look at the shocked expression on my face and burst out laughing before leaning in to kiss me once again, this time putting his hand on the back of my head to deepen the kiss.
âNo matter what happens, Iâm still going to want you.
A couple of months later, Brandon comes running into the living room after spending the day in the recording studio, recording the last couple of songs for his album.
âYay!â I put my book down to my side as he came to join me on the sofa, kissing my cheek as he sat down, handing me a copy of the track list.
âThis is the final draft for the track list, what do you think?â
I scanned down the list, knowing all of the songs listed after hearing them as he wrote them. However, there was one song that he hadnât shown me and as soon as I saw the title I knew exactly when heâd written the song:
