She knew it. That was the TARDIS engine sound, a Type 40, couldn’t have been more than a block away. She dropped sight of her soon-to-be pickpocketing victim and ran, feeling like her ears were swiveling, her eyes darting rapidly, her hearts soaring. She ran into several people who shouted after her, rude comments she didn’t even hear. All she could hear was that sound. No performance, no song on the radio, nay, not even the sound of a food wrapper in her hands--no sound had ever rung sweeter in her ears.
She turned a corner just as a young man was stepping out of that beautiful blue box, totally out of place here and now, but there was nothing she’d ever wanted to see more. A grin stretched her features as she slowed to a jog--he was arriving, not leaving. She revelled in the soft hum that buzzed in the back of her mind, her genetics and what was left of the hive mind recognizing her own species. She was hoping beyond hope that he would feel the same little tug at the back of his mind when he looked at her. And recognize it for what it was.
“Dad?!” she called out cautiously, her hearts picking up the tempo. Unsure he would respond to that, and not mistake her for a lost human child, she amended herself with a little more confidence. “Doctor!”
