116 Motel 666: A Horror Anthology - The Fourth Wall by Chris Hainsworth dir Scott Cummins for WildClaw Theatre at the DCA Storefront Theatre. Several years earlier, Brian and Aly Amidei had the idea for a horror anthology show at WildClaw, an evening of stories that took place in the same location. They settled on the idea of a motel (which of course lends itself to the great title Motel 666), decided on what was in the room, and collected several short plays from authors to curate an evening of horror theatre. Christopher M. Walsh, Brett Neveu, Michaela Petro, Ele Matelan, Scott T. Barsotti, Joseph Zettelmaier and myself all provided pieces. Mine was titled The Fourth Wall, and centered on a middle-aged married couple driving home after a funeral who stop because of the hour, and in this particular room is a painting (never seen by the audience because it is on - you guessed it - the fourth wall) that provokes feeling of dread in the woman, causing friction between them and then a bunch of freaky supernatural shit happens. With on involvement from me, my wife Katie was cast in the role of the wife and killed it. Natalie DiCristofano and Tony St. Clair played The Maid and The Clerk respectively, our supernatural ageless hosts for the evening (who appeared in every show but mine I think). Scott Cummins did a great job of balancing an evening of a variety of tones. Performed in the late and lamented DCA storefront space, this was a fun assignment. Sometimes I appreciate a set of given circumstances as a jumping off point. Here’s hoping for a Motel 666 2: Electric Boogaloo, somewhere down the line. #retrospective #2015 #wildclawtheatre #motel666 #thefourthwall #scottcummins #chrishainsworth #dcatheater #christophermwalsh #brettneveu #Josephzettlemaier #elematelan #michaelapetro #scotttbarsotti #brianamidei #alyamidei (at DCASE Storefront Theater) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8Yx5H9JpM8/?igshid=cec2wvwu0ca6
