92 Scenes from the Big Picture by Owen McCafferty dir Scott Cummins for Seanachai Theatre Company (now ITC) at Gallery 37. SftBP is a three hour, 21 character play about several denizens of Belfast over 24 hours. Weaving stories of family loss, infidelity, coming of age and friendship into a rich tapestry, it shows how connected people truly are. I of course played Robbie, the scumbag drug dealer who abuses his underage girlfriend and winds up with bullets in his ankles and knees for his trouble. In fact I found out is leading the way into knee reconstruction precisely because this happens a lot there. Also Scott Cummins, the director said, I hate it when people get shot onstage and then immediately pop back up and exit, so I’m gonna have you stay there until the next scene ends. Which was a ten minute long scene, involving a quiet conversation. So I would just lie face down on the floor, hands tied behind my back and think, man, this happens to me a lot. I am either a dick, or I wind up dead in most of the plays I do. It’s like 50% of the time. Often both. But this was a huge show where I met a lot of great folks and was fantastic, thank god, because when we weren’t on stage, we were directed to sit in the front row. So I saw this show a lot. And heard that one scene a lot. Thinking of it makes me lament the loss of that space. I loved doing shows there.
