Though the men’s costumes from 1938's 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒅𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑹𝒐𝒃𝒊𝒏 𝑯𝒐𝒐𝒅 started showing up in other historical epics, space operas, and sitcoms pretty much right away, the gowns designed for Olivia De Havilland by Milo Anderson took a few years to be used again.   This dark burgundy or purple velvet gown appeared again in 1950’s 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒓𝒓𝒐𝒘, a “Robin Hood” story set in medieval Italy. It was worn by Lynn Baggett as Francesca.   It was used again in 1954 in 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑹𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝒓𝒖𝒔𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔, worn by Paula Raymond as Queen Berengaria.   The costume has clearly been adapted over the years, with the high neckline of the 1930s getting progressively re-cut to reflect the necklines of the 1950s.   Learn more about this costume on our website at Bit.ly/AncMed057
