the dekubowl actually goes far back into fandom history. It was the fandom’s poor attempt to do damage control when it came to ships. 

You have your sheith and your klance, your makoharu and your rinharu, your usuk with fruk. it’s bound to happen. 

when this fandom was still an embryo i took a peak, and no one knew exactly what was going to be what. no one knew who these two big mlm couples would be, sincebnha escapes a bit the usual formula,  and they didnt want to get into a fight. Most shippers came from relatively chill fandoms, so they thought it would work…

“We ship everything!” to avoid getting into fights. and well, it worked for a while. 

turns out bnha got…a bit bigger than expected. 

the dekubowl has been declining slowly as the entirety of the fandom went to each corner and it became obvious who the two big ships were. and even when the dekubowl has been milder now…you can see who exactly runs it. often tddks, who hate bakugou and just want him to lose lmao -i was one at some point shrugs-. 

but since im a deku stan more than anything, i’m okay with it. 

thats the main reason behind the dekubowl. its not an exclusion of characters, it’s more of a phenomena that was bound to happen somewhere, and bnha was the one place to a large enough cast, a lovable enough mc, and an undefined “partner” by the beginning of the series. 

on itself its a very peculiar case lmao. 

REGARDLESS -sorry for the tangent- the fandom really lacks creativity when it comes to ships. 

This is coming from someone who was in the hetalia fandom way back when -throw stones at the end of the essay please- and let me tell you it’s falling incredibly short. 

Back when fanfiction.net was a thing, you could only list one ship -TWO WHEN THE UPDATE WAS RELEASED and that was like…woooow-. So people would throw ANYTHING at you. 

And that was a very pleasing way part of reading fics. You got to explore new ships, and could see the writer’s personal taste shine through. I liked it it was fun. 

You’d have crack ship all the way through, everything was free game. You did have the “default ships package” but most people played around, and threw them out of the window. You’d have a myriad of ships in the background, and it was AWESOME 

that’s why i hate it soooo much when they do this kind “default ships package” of thing in bnha. Always choosing the same things, always going through the same path. 

it standardises things and i hate it.  

i once read a very good tddk fic, because it had such wild ships i was having a BLAST with it. bakugou was dating kirishima and ochako, i think kaminari was dating sero, and tsuyu …i dont recall prob mina?…it was wild and i loved every second of it.

 And i have the vague idea -dont take my word for it it’s expeculation more than anything- that it’s because of anti culture. it’s permeating in a very toxic way. 

because you’re not allowed to ship this because its toxic, you’re not allowed to ship that because its straight, and you’re not allowed to ship what not because age gap, power dynamics, canon content, non canon content, it’s cliche, it’s ooc, it’s harmful for lgbt people, its stereotype it’s this, it’s that…

in voltron -for example- no one is allowed to ship ANYTHING other than klance. and because for some reason those shit holes are coming to bnha, they’re creating fear in the community. They don’t want you to ship anything other than what their “default ship package” has told you its okay. 

that’s why everyone attacks  you if  you think ts*chako is bland. that’s why everyone thinks you’re weird if you ship hawksdeavor, that’s why everyone riots when you say you ship bkdk. 

that’s why we can’t get more ships that the default ones. 

this purity culture is killing creativity. i know artist that don’t want to draw stuff that isn’t “safe”. writers who don’t want to cross the line. 

and its pretty damn awful. 

for people who claim to be protecting and creating wholesomeness, they sure are killing creativity in here.

A lot to unpack here...

Midoriya: Automatic yes to Lopunny, Gallade, Drampa, Clefairy, and Sawsbuck. I imagine him just having a Buneary at first and Miruko, who has an ultra strong Lopunny, helps him train it up a bit. Just... yes.

As for what I'd choose to be his sixth, I'd probably choose Eevee. That leaves a lot of options for him when it eventually involves; though I'd prefer Vaporeon or Espeon because... I don't know, that's just what works for me.

60. Sing to me.

Izuku opened the front door, sighing with relief when he finally got inside. “I’m home,” he called out wearily.

Setting the grocery bags on the dinner table, Deku flickered on the lights. He tensed, wondering where Katsuki was. “Kacchan?”

Izuku headed out to the living room, momentarily catching the headlines on the television.

“Pro-hero Ground Zero Injured- When Will He Return?”

Grimacing, Izuku turned off the television and wandered into his bedroom. “Kacchan?”

A rather large lump underneath several blankets shifted.

The second best hero, second to Izuku, was currently swaddled in blankets.  

“Kacchan, I’m home.”

“I can hear, you know,” Katsuki grumbled.

“Get up, please.”

With a groan, Katsuki threw off the sheets, and Izuku mentally braced himself. “Happy?” Katsuki sneered sarcastically.

Izuku pouted, then sat on the bed with him. “Kacchan…”

Katsuki had been badly injured by a squad of villains. Although Katsuki and Izuku worked as a hero duo, the villains had isolated Katsuki and marred his face and arms. Fortunately, Katsuki would recover, but currently, his left arm needed to be in a sling.

Caressing Katsuki’s scarred face, Izuku sighed. “Let’s eat something, okay?”

“Not hungry.”

“Kacchan. You know better than anyone the consequences-”

“I said, I’m not hungry!” Swatting Izuku’s hand off his face, Katsuki shut his eyes.

There was a pained silence between the two of them, and Izuku leaned in closer, ignoring Katsuki’s protests.

“Fine, then. I’m not hungry, either. Let’s talk.”

“Deku-” Katsuki started to growl, but Izuku kissed his cheek softly.

“What’s wrong?”

Katsuki heaved a sigh, then buried his right hand in his hair. “I’m fucking injured, for starters.”

“Okay. That happens to everyone, especially heroes. And, you’ll recover.” Izuku braced for Katsuki to lash out, but to his surprise, Katsuki merely sighed.

“I know, Deku. I know…”

“Then what’s the problem?” probed Izuku. “You’ll be back to saving people in a week’s time, I bet. Maybe if you bothered to eat and avoid sulking all the time, you’d-”

“Deku, enough,” Katsuki said softly. “I just didn’t want to leave you alone.”

Izuku waited for Katsuki to elaborate, but when he didn’t, Izuku stroked Katsuki’s cheek. “You didn’t. I’m not alone.”

“Yes, you are. I left you to fight on your own. We’re- we’re a team, Deku. I failed. I wasn’t good enough.” Katsuki bit his lip, then dug his fingernails into his palm.

“Kacchan, don’t beat yourself up over this! Don’t you trust me? I can work alone, too.”

“Deku, that’s not the point.” Mashing his hand into his eyes, Katsuki groaned. “Dammit, I’m a failure.”

So, this incident was a blow to Katsuki’s ego. Izuku shook his head. “Kacchan, you’re not a failure. You’re human, and I love you no matter what.”

A comforting silence lapsed between the two. Izuku was about to leave, but then Katsuki gripped his arm.

“Don’t leave,” he whispered.

Izuku nodded. “Okay.”

“Sing to me.”

“What?”

“Sing. Anything. Sing to me, Deku.”

Izuku frowned momentarily, song candidates running through his head, before he finally thought of one. “Aha! Okay, Kacchan, I can’t promise to sing well, but I’ll try.” Clearing his throat, Izuku tentatively started to sing a lullaby from his childhood.

The melody was sweet and soft, sweet and soft enough to make Katsuki smile a bit. Familiar with the tune, Katsuki hummed along, and the two were eventually belting out the final notes.

Bursting into laughter, Izuku nestled against Katsuki’s side. “That was nice, wasn’t it?”

“Why are you a hero when you could be a singer? Seriously?” Katsuki asked, a ghost of a smile still on his lips.

“Is it too late for a career switch?”

“Never too late.”

he gotta find that nice balance so he can say it a lot but make sure deku still reacts all blushy and flustered when he hears it
