Today's preview update I call "The Process" It's how page 1 went from a script to the final image that we'll see in the issue itself.
The first image is the script as originally written (for the purpose of the comic, not the very first version of it ever... that one was hand written)
The second image is what we call a thumbnail sketch. Don (the artist) wanted to make sure I was okay with his layout... which I very much and obviously was.
The third image is the full proper sketch. These didn't take him too long to do, but they are the initial view.
Between the third and the fourth image there was a transitional image of the page as it was being inked without any of the tone added, it looked like a funky black and white image.
This fourth image was the final version received by Don. Exactly as was given to me. It is beyond brilliant and it was at this point that I knew that I'd be so excited to receive every single following page from him.
The fifth image was the reworking of it that I put it through myself in order to make it fit with the overall structure of the comic. Such as colour / style changes that happen later on in the issue, and adding some boats in the first panel, adding additional dialogue, tweaking other parts of the image.
The process from page 1 to 4 took about two weeks.
