Joseph took a disinterested glance at the unnaturally long wasp curled up in the grass; dead, hence not a threat.

He rocked back and forth on his heels, hands clasped behind his back , as he hummed in response.

"Christie and Christian told me you're helping them with their little investigation." he added casually, eyes moving on Robert once his attention was back to the kids, "that you confirmed their theory about people in the neighborhood mysteriously abducted and replaced with clones, so I was wondering how one would recognize them.”

He gave a quick glance toward the insect as the twins poked at it again. It definitely looked freaky — Maybe even worse since it was dead. 

Sitting back on his heels, Robert turned his attention back to Joseph before raising an eyebrow.

mary wasn’t STUPID. she was aware of the whispers that went on behind her back. to an extent she accepted what was said. she knew doing what she that people would raise eyebrows. mary still felt it insulting, however. not necessarily because of the notion that she would cheat in general, but that if she did she’d be noisy about it. if there was any reason mary would’ve actually stepped out on joseph, she wouldn’t do it in front of everyone else at the local bar.

the older women mostly kept to their small group, but their big mouths couldn’t help but keep going while still in the building. mary still had POWER in the church. despite what people felt about her they still tended to be cordial. often times when she could sense what was happening, she wasn’t going to let them get away with it. because of her postilion however, she couldn’t outright start anything as much as she liked to. 

instead mary headed over to the group of ladies and quickly got them to shut up and inserted herself into some conversation about whatever the sermon happened to be about that day. she didn’t engage for long, but she left with a few words.  ❝ and remember ladies, james 1:26, those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. ❞ 

He didn’t really know how to reply to that because it was the most amazing thing he has ever seen. But trying to figure out why you boat is stuck and watching a woman face coming up to the surface instead of your anchor, out in open sea? That’s plenty scary, yes. After realising that no, the anchor didn’t get caught in a corpse, he was way to relieved to fully understand what was happening. The woman in the water had a tail, a fish tail. Joseph blinked a couple of times and rubbed his eyes, the sun’s been hammering down on his head all day and it’s clearly playing tricks on him. But when he opened his eyes again the mermaid was still there. He laughed and looked back down in the water, following the shimmering tail’s movements. “No, you don’t…You just surprised me, is all.”

A smile crosses the woman’s lips, flicking the end of her fin to splash a bit of salty water at the sailor. “You looked a bit more than surprised-- I expect you haven’t seen someone like me before?”

This startles a laugh out of him to the point where he’s grabbing the door frame for support, because wow, where did that come from, jesus christ, Joseph -

“No”, he says empathically, still laughing, “no, buddy, trust me, you’d never pull that off –” 

Which isn’t to say that he’s impartial to the thought of Joseph in only one piece of clothing. Just, you know. He doesn’t usually involve his own damn jacket in his fantasies.

Nah, there’s better stuff to go with. He stands up straight and gestures at Joseph.
