The Challenger

“Absol, return,” Neo said, calling back his Pokémon after defeating another gym challenger. He smirked as he shook the young boy’s hand. “You have promise, but you’ll need to train some more.”
The boy walked away without saying anything else. In just his first week as the new Cherrygrove city gym leader, Neo had defeated dozens of trainers without even coming close to defeat. Being the first gym most young trainers challenge, he wasn’t expecting any sort of difficulties, but it had been even easier than he thought.
At 22 years old, Neo had over a decade of experience as a Pokemon trainer, and durign that time, had taken a liking to dark types, making them his signature. In his gym, he had four trusty Pokemon from his time as a challenger: Sableye, Absol, Umbreon, and his ace Houndoom. They had all been extremely hard workers and ha gone through tons of rigorous training over the years, and he had no doubt that they would be the perfect Pokemon for a gym.
“I wonder when I’ll actually get challenged,” he said to himself as he started to gather his things to head home for the day. No more trainers were lined up outside, and he just assumed no one else would come in. He put his Poke balls into his bag and walked to the door.
As he put his hand up to the door to push it open, the door swung open and hit him in the head, knocking him to the floor.
“Ow!” he yelled as he looked up to a see a girl who had just walked into the gym, full of energy.
