On Wednesday, in an unprecedented ruling, a judge in Paramaribo, Suriname granted Yvanna Hilton, a transgender woman's request to change her gender at the Census Office. Despite objections from religious organizations, the court ruled a woman who was assigned male at birth should be able to change her gender.
