in my head, vault 101 is huge and sprawling, with high ceilings full of exposed pipes and serpentine tunnels you can get lost in. i’m fully blaming adam adamowicz‘ concept art for this headcanon tbh
i also hc that vault 101 is as we see it in-game because the other parts have fallen in disrepair as the vault population grew smaller and smaller. what we see are only the topmost layers; the deeper you go, the more convoluted the tunnels and the more like adamowicz’ art - unfortunately, they’re off limits. (fortunately gwen doesn’t care about limits - she hangs out in the decrepit lower layers when she needs to be alone)
