A week of love, a holiday of expectation, and performance pressure. How about this.. take all of your hopes and Valentine's Day dreams and give them to yourself. If you are not willing to romance your self in a bubble bath with champaign, or on a bed of rose petals.. how can you expect that door to be open for some else to be there for you in that way? Under all of the chocolate and trappings, what is it that you really want? ... I was playing with heart openers on my mat today, under the guise of writing some fabulously witty post about opening the heart. blah, blah, universal love, blah blah... I have walked out there.. i do walk out here open, raw, and vulnerable. What I have learned is that walking love and heart forward, but not centered in oneself, can become a life of desperation, clinging, and attachment. That is all the language of suffering. Placing our hearts in others hands is a recipe for disaster. No matter how much they care, or how good it is, it creates a hunger that cannot be satiated. This Valentine's day, put your heart in your own hands and be fed. Do you trust yourself with something so precious? Do you have the strength to truly love and romance yourself? To love you because of your flaws that are so stinking adorable. ... On my own journey of self compassion I have found that a lovers quarrel was needed. I had to sit down with myself and get real about how I was treating me. Have the hard conversation. Cry. Break up. Take space, and rejuvenate. This year I am taking myself out, write myself a love letter, surprise myself with a ring. I am gonna trust myself with my own vulnerability.
