The Big Idea
Our first day shooting Family Portraits in the Gorbals went well.
Shannon, had a great rapport with the families, Carol greeted them, took details and kept continuity, "Behind the scenes" shots showed Carol and Simone using those invaluable skills photographers need ... puppetry and teddybear balancing.
Myself, @joanneelderphotography , @sulamichiephotography and @niamhcampbellphotog managed to raise over £100 and I’m honestly so proud of us and I am so glad the money is going to such an important charity.

Here are some example images we may use for our Paw Prints.
I shot these at home of my two cats Mia and Jess and my family pup Oscar.
Student Scran
3/2/20
In this class our group decided to print our recipe booklets and set the website as a future goal.
We have researched average prices for the ingredients for each recipe, sourcing these ingredients from shops like Aldi and Lidl that are low cost and high quality products.
We have discussed that each member will cook and photograph one of the recipes at home and ensure this is completed by February 24th so there is extra time in March to reshoot and put the booklet together.
Photograph the meal in different viewpoints using window light and a reflector or studio lights (if available). Ensure the meal is presentable and well lit, take photographs at different viewpoints. Bring this to the group for February 24th so the group can decide on the best images to use.

Proposal 1.
Family portrait pop-up studio: the Gorbals is considered to be an area of high deprivation, but it has strong community partnership projects.
Rationale:
Families where finances are limited are less likely to be able to buy luxury items such as portraits (its often these families who don’t buy the school photo for example).
Community groups in this area work hard at addressing this types of “attainment gap”.
A member of our group has strong links with the area, Julie is a retired Nursery HT who worked in the Gorbals area.
Many memorable depictions of the Gorbals are of crumbling buildings, poor families and poverty, we would like to redress the balance by inviting people to sit for portraits that show them at their best.
Gorbals communities use the #goodaboutgorbalsto promote all of the work going on there.
Links
Gorbals: Bridging the Gap, Thriving Communities, Highrise Bakers, Heads of Local schools/nurseries.
Both: Glasgow Life, BBC Social, Local Councillors, Daily Record, English as an additional Language support.
Action required:
If approved, the group would approach the communities with the proposal and seek a local area that families feel comfortable coming to in the evening (two evenings).
We would work closely with them to make sure that families could access the photos online, possibly through a Google account similar to the one used for the Actor headshots.
A grant would be applied for.
If funding was successful a printed shot would be made available to each family in addition to the e-file.
An appointment timetable to be set up.
For publicity we have some contacts at Daily record & BBC social who might be interested.
As a follow up a mini exhibition of the shots could be displayed at a local space, e.g. St Francis hall ,Gorbals.
Equipment Needed:
Studio set up x 2 – Backdrop, lights, flash release cable, reflectors, camera, lens, Tripod, Laptop or monitor.
Print facilities
Google Account.
Roles in Group
Photographer – Shannon

Proposal 3.
Knitted by Nan
Nan Low celebrates her 91stbirthday this year, she is part of a decreasing group of people skilled in knitting Sanquhar gloves in the traditional Duke pattern.
Simone has been researching this and after contacting the Scottish Heritage Foundation discovered that there are close family ties between the remaining Knitters all of whom come from the Sanquhar area.
Can we build on this and possibly develop it as a story/ fundraiser?
Contacts - BBC Social/Greenock telegraph. Website called disappearing Scotland, Glasgow life, COG creative department
Raising awareness to Scottish traditions that have been stamped out.
Go around knitting groups – Glasgow art gallery, Bridgeton womens library, category is books, Mitchel library, The Olympia, Women’s centre (stitch and bitch)
Rationale
Looking for volunteers to learn how to do this and keep the tradition alive. Hosting a workshop to teach people how to do this.
Make flyers and posters to advertise this.
