(Moving the Ameridan discussion to ask if you don't mind, so we don't spam the poor OP with our conversation) I was so excited to see him because during most of the "Ameridan was great" spiels I kinda went 'yeah great human chantry zealot sure was a great guy A+' and then suddenly I was very wrong and I've never been happier to be wrong. Thedas needs more elf mages to get things done these days.
Lmaaao don’t worry, I’m the OP of that post.
Yes, I was so pleased! I’ve seen people saying ‘Oh, nothing revolutionary was revealed in the DLC’ but no! For literal ages, people probably took it for granted that Ameridan was human and definitely not a mage, but now it’s suddenly been revealed that somebody with close ties to Chantry was none of those things. That’s going to get people questioning what they thought they knew. I mean, if the rumours about Ameridan were so wrong due to facts being lost to time/blurred by gossip, then what about figures before Ameridan’s time like Andraste? For all we know, the Imperial Chantry could actually be right about her being a mage. After all, the Chantry likes to simply erase things if it’s convenient for them *cough*Shartan*cough*.
And then there’s the fact that he was Dalish, and worshipped both elven gods and the Maker. All this time the Chantry has been like ‘THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE RELIGION THE ELVES ARE HEATHENS AND NEED SAVING’. Ameridan’s beliefs symbolise that no, the two can co-exist peacefully.
Divine Faustine II said that the Dragon Age will be an age of upheaval and yes it has been that, but that’s not necessarily as terrible a thing as the word ‘upheaval’ implies. Although horrible events occurred to get to where it is now, if anything, the Dragon Age has been one of discovery and progress, even more so if you chose certain routes in DAI.
