As you may know, early this morning in Aurora, Colorado at a movie theater, at a premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, there was a mass shooting in theater 9. At this point there are 12 dead including a 6 year old girl. Her father has confirmed that she has regrettably passed on. Approximately 50 people are injured, and the death count has not risen.

Police apprehended the suspected shooter James Holmes, 24, at the scene of the crime. Holmes is originally from San Diego, has Tennessee license plates, and lived in Aurora, Colorado. He was a student at the University of Colorado until he withdrew last month. Holmes began shooting after a violent scene in The Dark Knight Rises around 12:30 a.m., some witnesses believed that the shots emanated from the  soundtrack to the movie. Holmes was armed with a semi automatic rifle, two hand guns, and gas bombs. He released the gas bombs and opened fire on theater 9.

His parents have confirmed that their son is in custody, and are planning to fly to Colorado soon. Currently they are still inside their house. A spokeswoman spoke for the family moments ago, they ask for their privacy and the privacy of their neighbors. The family is cooperating with all forms of law enforcement. The spokeswoman said they see this morning's events as a tragedy.

The police have determined that Holmes' apartment is booby tapped, possibly with explosives and other flammable chemicals. The bobby trapping has been described as sophisticated, and bomb techs from various agencies are working to disarm the traps. The local police have evacuated five surrounding buildings, and have photos of the traps, as well as, ammunition. One source stated that "there were buckets of ammunition" inside the apartment. The police are uncertain as to how long it will take to disarm the apartment. One source stated "We could be here for hours or even days".

The eye witnesses have been transferred to a local high school by police to be cared for and interviewed. Their families are left wondering if their relatives and friends are okay. The police are trying to eliminate the confusion.

This act of senseless violence wounds everyone. I ask that we gather to show our support to those involved in this tragedy.
