The team is what matters to Ilya because he grew up without one behind him, without supports or family. He tells himself that the better he is at hockey the more his team will like him and the more secure his place on the team will be. And then they make him captain and he is the Man Of The House and he encourages every member of his team because that is what he wishes he had.

Shane grew up with Yuna, helicopter mom extraordinaire. He never had to wonder if there was anyone supporting him (at least in terms of his career) because its been obvious and almost overbearing his entire life. Shane doesn’t NEED the team the way Ilya does. What Shane needs is the game. The play. To just be free on the ice and not have to worry about his brand obligations or sponsorships or whatever. I think Shane also loves playing hockey because that is how he proves to himself that he was worth all the effort his parents put into him as a child/teen.

The fact that they think of how Taura's tufts of hair look is very much a reflection of how they think of her in the beginning.😅
