Vampire Hexmage is a favorite of mine. A nice card from the (formerly) Adventure world of Zendikar.

Ah Zendikar. Lots of counters here. +1/+1 counters, Loyalty, Level, Quest - a pretty big list for one setting. Makes sense you’d want something to get rid of them - let your opponent build up a heavy loyalty planeswalker trying to Ult, or a Quest almost complete, or a Lighthouse Chronologist that just got ready to get extra turns, then BOOM - play the hexmage and end it.

Vampire Hexmage is a staple in multiple formats, and is the one of the reasons Dark Depths is banned in Modern. It’s also occasional sideboard hate for ‘walkers (though there are far better options). But who cares? We’re here to talk about EDH!

What does Hexmage do here?

TONNNS!

She can gut a ‘walker at instant speed. Self sacrificing (to trigger those nice Butcher of Malakir effects, or give Meren experience) is a blast, especially when it’s free. 

It plays well with vampire tribal (the little that exists) and is a nasty combo piece (Dark Depths may be banned Modern, but not here!). 

The body is decent enough - a 2/1 First Striker for BB isn’t bad at all (better than the average mana dork). 

Also attractive is it’s fiscal price - usually around $0.25 for all it’s printings (Zendikar, Conspiracy, and C14 Black).

VERDICT:

(Do I really need this section?) Eh, I have it everywhere else.
