(This is an story I made up back in 2016 just to get some giggles. Read it and know why~ //wink wink)
A girl is left alone at home, busy with her own digital world. A sound echoes from downstairs. It gets louder and louder the more she ignores it... Finally, she gathers up the courage to peek through the door.
8 little green lights greet her in the darkness, each beeping its own pace. The sound resounds from it, a long buzzing sound.
She closes the door with a shrug, returning to her tablet. The beeping sound rings in her ear, even as she walks away from it. Infact, it only seemed to grow stronger the farther she gets.
She heads to her room, hoping to continue reading.
Unknown to her, one of the green lights turned red....
As she sat on her bed, giggling over the fanfiction she was reading, she felt a chill run down her spine. She looked around, perplexed. Her windows are closed, the door was locked, no signs of ventilation....
And then she sees it... to her horror, the tiny symbol on the bottom right part of her tablet. The once filled insignia of the wifi shifts, and one bar was down. Her breath was caught in her throat as she skims over the story, checks her downloads and accounts. Nothing much difference...
And then in the dark, another red light replaces a green....
She shifts on her bed, debating whether to head back down or not when another bar disappears. She felt the hairs at the back of her neck stand. No use being afraid now, she needed these episodes even if it meant her life.
She went back downstairs, settling where she was moments ago. The ringing in her ears toned down as she checked her downloads.
Everything was halfway through, but she didn't miss the slow changing of the numbers. The net was definitely going down.
Another bar disappears. Only one remained.
She hopped on her feet and ran to the creepy room, desperate to save her downloads. She fumbled in the dark, feeling the walls for a light switch. She flicked open the lights and looked around. It was a storage room, one she never bothered to check since most of it were her father's tools.
'Where is it?' Her gaze landed on the modem of the WiFi, precariously perched on the high end of the shelf. 'That's weird... Was it really that high when I saw it?'
Suddenly, she screamed, throwing away the gadget on her hands and falling to her backside. It landed on a pile of boxes, thankfully not on the floor. She held her breath, 'What the hell! It just vibrated! Don't freak out just because of that!!' She yelled at herself.
A notification was visible on the screen: Internet Connection Error.
She groaned and scrambled to get up when a long beep interrupted her and the lights went out.
She stopped, adjusting her vision in the dark. She looked up and saw the lights, 3 green and 5 red. The green lights were blinking alternatively, the red ones were steady. She gulped and stood up. The room shifted around her, suddenly all spacious, as if she was still feeling the vertigo. Her tablet rested amongst the boxes, providing the only soft light in the room.
She needed to leave, to go back to her room, but not without her tablet. Downloads and accounts be damned, she just wants to draw or type now.
But she couldn't move her legs no matter how much she willed. The light grew dim, it was entering standby mode.
She took a deep breath and forced a step.
The tablet turned off. The room went dark, with only the little button of lights above her. 6 red lights.
'Screw this!' She retreated her step. It was probably past 10 pm anyways, so she might as well sleep. She turns on her heels and was about to head to the door when light blazed across the room.
She looked over her shoulder. The tablet turned on, the bright wallpaper visible.
And just like that, it went black again. Only this time, it was vibrating.
7 red lights shone above her.
She stepped back hurriedly, too afraid to turn against this. Her heartbeat was literally drumming against her eardrums. Her hands fumbled with the wall, groping for the doorknob. And when she did grasp it, the ringing screeched in her ears.
"We're home!" It was past 7 when they came back. Nobody opened the door for 10 minutes, which was strange since they knew she would be up all night. They opened it with the keys and called out.
Maybe she's actually sleeping for once, they thought.
Brother sits down on the sofa, sighing in contentment. After a while, he notices the half-opened door behind him. The storage room was usually locked, did father take something in it?
He goes up to close it, but stops when he sees a hand from it. He pulls it open, revealing the body of his sister, sprawled unmoving on the floor. He screams, and his parents come up, scared witless. They frantically pull her up, checking her vital signs. Words were caught on his throat, and instead, he tears his gaze away to inspect the room for problems.
Nothing out of the ordinary, but his sister's tablet was amongst the pile of boxes, vibrating.
He steps over to it, picking it up and unlocking it. He drops it on the floor in surprise and fear.
It was a picture, dark and blurry, but he could make out the silhouettes in the middle. One was his sister, standing against the wall. Beside her, was a tall man, tall enough that his head was not taken in the picture. His feet were not touching where her feet connected with the floor.
A line of little red dots decorated the upper left of the photo.
