Two things:
1) According to Facebook, everyone from my past is now a professional photographer. Just in case you need, like, a shot of a wedding ring in a gumball machine or a kid by an abandoned railroad track or something.Ā
2) I've been hyper aware of Pretoria lately because of the Oscar Pistorius trial, and every time I hear or read it, I think of The Net. Then Tumblr put the pi sign where the period normally goes and I was immediately like, "ZOMG, Praetorians!!! We're doooooooomed!" Related: I saw that movie with a friend when I was in junior high and when I got home I said to my mom, "I want a computer!" And she was all, "You have a computer." (We had a Tandy. *snort*) And I was like, "Mahm, I mean a computer that talks to other computers." And now here we are! Happy 25th birthday internetz!!! And happy 5th Tumblversary to me. We live in the future, guys!

We were getting off the phone, planning to continue our conversation later, and she prefaced the above with, "Oh, but I have a burning question for you... I'm going to need you to explain it to me." After she said it, I lol'd because a) she's always asking me what things mean that I thought were common knowledge to people our age but that are apparently only common knowledge to internet people, and b) this is not an internet issue so much as it's a "people our age don't say that" thing that I myself happen to know only because I UrbanDictionary'd it (that's a term, ask anyone) after I noticed the kids using it everywhere and I, like my friend here, was all, "I don't know what the fuck they're talking about."
