Redstrike knew from a logical and educated standpoint that the doctor was only physically separating the newspark from his own spark, but if he had relied on his senses alone to tell him what was happening he could have sworn they were pulling his spark right out of its chamber. It didn’t hurt, but it wasn’t a pleasant experience either. It triggered something feral in him though, an instinct to stay alive at all costs and put as much distance as he could between himself and the instruments prodding into him. A few growls and snarls might have slipped out of him too as he gave into that urge, but a tight squeeze from Blackguard’s hand around his own hand always seemed to calm him down and keep him from doing anything regrettable.

She’d be lucky if she ever got another child out of him after this though. As much as he loved her and as much as he was going to love this newspark, he was absolutely done with the process of creation. Her method of adopting anything and everything was far less painful and exhausting than this.

“What are you smiling about?” Blackguard asked with a curious and teasing tone. Redstrike hummed as he turned to look at her, pressing his lips to her jawline.

“This.” He answers simply, allowing his barely contained excitement to bloom through their bond and spread to her. “Everything. Them.”

She hums above him in understanding and squeezes his hand. “I know. Me too.”

“Then why’d you ask?”

“I just wanted to hear you say it.” She blows a puff of air across the top of his helm, making him laugh as both the feeling and her silliness tickles him.

“Redstrike of Nova Cronum and Blackguard of Black Matter?” A voice calls out above the murmur of the waiting room, and the two perk up and look toward the nurse standing by the door. He smiles warmly when he makes optic contact with them, and gestures for them to come follow him further into the hospital.

It was time, and Redstrike squeezed her hand.

“Promise you won’t let them kill me just so you can have another child for your hoard.”
