when the 1975 dropped ‘i don’t like going outside, so bring me everything here’, and we had no idea...
so how’s our wildest dream coming true feels now?
The 1975 at The Armory in Minneapolis
Tuesday May 7th, 2018
The 1975 fans don’t mess around when it comes to seeing their favorite band live. People had been queuing up since 8 AM the Friday before the concert. Nearly 100 people had lined up in front of the armory even before noon on Tuesday. Through the Armory, these first 100 people in line were given wristbands that held their place in line for them so that people may go shower, get food, and use the toilet. Doors opened at 5:30 PM and fans began to fill the huge venue.
The night kicked off with a performance by No Rome, a London-based Filipino musician (picture 5). He played songs from his first two EPs “RIP Indo Hisashi” and “Crying In The Prettiest Places”. Many fans only knew of No Rome through his collaboration with The 1975 but everyone enjoyed all of his up beat dancey music.
Pale Waves kept the crowd dancing as they performed songs from their debut album “My Mind Makes Noises” (picture 4). The English Indie-pop band from Manchester may have been less known by fans of The 1975 but kept the crowd’s energy high with songs to jump and dance along to that anyone could enjoy without having to actually know the song.
Finally it was time for everyone’s favorite boys to take the stage. The setlist for the night was mainly made up of songs from their newest album “A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships”. However they also played songs from their other albums “I like it when you sleep for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it” and their first self titled album. Each song was performed with it’s own unique background being displayed behind the giant signature rectangle. Specifically for Sincerity is Scary, they had a treadmill set up along the stage to make it look as though Matty was walking through a neighborhood just like in the music video. Fan were also treated to a performance that night of Paris, which has not been performed live since their last album tour. From fans screaming when Matty hit the woah during Change of Heart to them crying and shouting along to Robbers emotions were all over the place during the night. The band left the fans wanting more and came back for an encore ending the night with The Sound and leaving fans with smiles crying happy tears.
