Mathare, Nairobi.  There are several slums within the city that belie the modern city that is just a few minutes away.  Mathare is near Eastleigh which is largely a Somali Muslim community that has had many problems with the refugee crisis in the past few years.  It is not a safe place to be.  Mathare is nearby and the streets were littered with trash and crowded with markets that looked quaint in the rural areas, but sad here.  Perhaps it’s the high rise rundown buildings in the background .  Though the store fronts feel very much the same, the place just feels more oppressed.
