The EU Made Margret Thatcher Accept Sex Dolls, Regardless of Their Nationality.
In 1986, Margret Thatcher attempted to ban the import of sex dolls and other sex toys to the UK under the Obscene Publications Act of 1959 the same law that banned the publication of Lady Chatterley’s Lover in 1960 now a hit BBC series. However, German Sex doll manufacturers complained to the European Court of Justice that this ban violated the non-discrimination principle of the European internal market, because sex dolls and other sex toys were already being produced and sold in the UK. The European Court of justice took some time to consider the case, as member state’s can ban certain imports for the sake of the public good, but eventually agreed that it was indeed discriminatory to ban a product from being imported if it was already being produced in that country. The UK was ordered to lift its ban on sex dolls or get a hefty fine. Maggie Thatcher relented, Britain rejoiced, and then left the EU anyway.
