Writer secret revealed: No Ordinary Star was originally conceived as a Tin Soldier+the Ballerina Christmas story, but it ended up being much more than that. Still, some of the original ideas remained, thus the nickname of Felix throughout the book “tin soldier”. Astra gets her own nickname from another Christmas story by Hans Christian Andersen, although she herself doesn’t realize that, until she discovers a half-burnt book of Christmas stories in a hidden library. And that’s when the story begins.

And by story, I mean the world explodes around them.

And by begins, I mean they are exploding along with the world.
