What is Love? Love is Love.
I never have imagined that I would be writing something like this. But after watching “My Bromance” and “Love’s Coming”, both thai gay films, I cannot contain myself from pouring out all the emotions I’m feeling right now.
What is Love? A pretty cliché question right? But it is a question with so many answers. Answers that may be valid or may be unacceptable in the eyes of many. How did I say so? Because there are different kinds of Love that cannot be explained into words but can be expressed into actions. Actions that are gladly frowned upon by those who can’t understand it deeply.
Love is ecstasy. Love is a sudden burst of uncontrollable emotions. It is inevitable. And we humans are very much capable of feeling it. And given that, it means we cannot choose when to love or whom to love. We just can’t. It is something beyond our control that once we felt it, it just cannot be simply ignored.
“It takes a man and a woman” they said, but can’t we put it simply into “Love is between Love”? Really, when we thought better of it, Why should there be any limitations and boundaries when it comes to loving someone? Can’t a man love a man? Or a woman love a woman?
And that’s why LGBTs are always having a hard time to have their happy endings. Because the odds are often not in their favor. Maybe some get lucky and are easily accepted by the people who they care about but most of the LGBTs are not. Their love stories and coming out always come into a tragic end. There are so many watchful eyes around them that they think better of whether to come out and confess their love for someone or just stay inside the ‘closet’ forever.
Coward you say? Maybe. But with a grave reason. Because the reality is, when a gay person comes out, A horde of hate messages, mistreating and disgusted looks are what they receive. They are being bullied, beaten into damned where their self dignity is stolen to the point of no return. Some even lost their sanity because the negative feedbacks are just too overwhelming for them to handle.
Not all of them though always turns out like that. There are some who receive lots of hugs, pats in the back and a kiss on the cheeks when they come out. But that is about only 10 percent of the total LGBT population around the world. Like what I said, Coming out does not always turn out good.
But you know what, for me, why restrain yourself from loving someone? Why be afraid? It is you against the world and you should fight what you truly feel, stepping up to those who are against it. It’s your life and it’s about your Happiness. It should be you who should make the decisions for yourself and you should not be moved by the opinions of those who are around you.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that because Love is inevitable, why stop yourself from experiencing it? Forget the gender. Forget the age. Forget the race. Forget the status in life. Instead, you should focus on how you will keep that passionate fire of love be with you always. Focus on how you will nurture it to bear fruits of eternal happiness with the one you truly love.
What is Love? I ask again. Now, I have my own answer. Love is an unconditional feeling that every single one of us shouldn’t be deprived of. A feeling like no other that should be freely felt without restrictions and without judgement. An eternal bliss which should be shared because everyone deserves it. Love should be like that because after all, “Love is Love”.
"So I have one question. If we can love someone that much, how will be able to handle it one day when we are separated?" Watching "Love of Siam" since 2007 for the umpteenth time. #ThaiFilms #RainyDayBlues #MarioMaurer
