TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE BENJAMIN AND BAD WEATHER! 

Benjamin stepped into the darkened pub and scraped his shoes off on the mat. Beads of rainwater flew from his hair and dripped from his beard as he let his shoulders drop. He’d had them hunched against the chill as he walked, his hands stuffed firmly into his pockets and his chin tucked down. The weather had been a surprise, bucking the forecasted afternoon sun and instead soaking the city with a drizzling mist, and the patrons inside the pub were all in various stages of drying off as they huddled over their pints telling tales of warmer days. Not here for stories, not today. Removing his damp outer layer and folding the wool pea coat over his arm, he scanned the crowded room for the face he was looking for. C’mon, you said you’d be here at- He checked his watch as he took a few more steps inside, an older gentleman coming in right behind him. It’s 3:30, where are-

“Oi, aren’t you a sight.” The familiar, sarcastic voice made him snap his head up from his wrist as Leo waved over from where he sat at a small table against the wall. “You look like a drowned rat, mate, what happened?” The younger man smirked over the rim of his pint as Benjamin made his way over to the table. “So in love you forgot your umbrella?” He snickered into the foam of his beverage as he gestured to the bartender for two more pints. “You do know that-” 

Hi @dearmarii !! How are you darling? I’m sorry it took me so long to answer this- I saw it as soon as you sent it and it made me smile like a fool! You are too sweet with your kind words, but I am so thrilled that you’re enjoying this story so much. I have a lot of fun writing Benjamin and Reader. 

You picked some good moments!! For these two, you hit the nail on the head- the small moments matter so much. Seeing each other after a week away, Benjamin comforting her at the hotel, him getting her to leave her work on the living room floor and come to bed...those are the things that really make up a relationship. When you’re making a quilt you have all these big beautiful patches, right? But without the stitching in between the patches, all you have are scraps of material. Two people can have big, exciting moments together- first date, first “i love you”, a wedding perhaps, celebration of success or wealth- but without all the little things woven in between, those “milestones” mean a whole lot less.

So you JUST finished Gold Digger, huh?? What did you think? I really enjoyed it, and would have even liked it more had it been a little longer/ more expanded, because I feel like there were some really great characters (Leo, Benjamin, Marsha in particular) that I think they could have done more with... but anywho...

I’m so happy to hear that you’re enjoying my Benjamin series!! Writing him is so much fun. Like eating dessert before dinner fun. I’m absolutely going to continue that series. I have LOTS of plans for Benjamin, Reader & co. that I’m really excited to get to.

Right now I’m in the middle of a request event, but as soon as I get through that I’ll be back to my ongoing series (though all the pieces I’m working on now are related to a current series so there’s some more Benjamin coming for that sooner rather than later!) The last week or so has been an utter dud when it comes to writing, so hopefully I’ll pick up some speed moving forward 🤞🏻

Bonus line because 😏: Leaning back in, he dropped his voice lower, raising goosebumps along your arms as he growled, “Somewhere I never even wanted to go with her.”

He blinked a few times in the still dark room, sleepy eyes working to wake up enough so that he could make out what was going on. What’s she… He could see your shadow moving in the strip of light spilling onto the carpet from the bathroom. Benjamin propped himself up on his elbow and reached for his glasses on the bedside table. The sound of water rushing from the tap followed by a foamy, swishing sound hit his ear as he checked the time on the alarm clock. She’s brushing her teeth? It’s not even… The alarm had been set for seven, but the bright green numbers told him that it was only six thirty-two. Knew I hadn’t slept through it. He sat up fully and pulled the sheets back, the warmth that had started fading when you’d left the bed vanishing completely as his feet hit the floor.
