hi! i ljust read the post about "sitting on the fence" and i just wanted to say that as someone who is bi i really don't like that saying and i think it reinforces the idea that people who aren't straight or gay are "greedy" or "can't make up their minds" (things ive heard from straight/gay/lesbian people). also i really dislike that entire saying about "the grass is always greener" (in the context of sexuality) bc it reinforces that sexuality is binary, when it's definitely not

As someone else who could be described as bi (but identifies using various other terms, such as my preferred ‘queer’), I understand how you feel, and I’ve also faced discrimination from both gay and straight people over the bi stereotypes. However, as you will be able to tell from my other books (and also, pretty much everything I say), I definitely don’t view sexuality as binary and it won’t come out as binary in my writing.
However, when you are first questioning, binary sexualities are your reference. The vast, vast majority of people understand there are 3 sexualities: gay, straight & bi. That’s what most people start with. It takes time to discover that sexuality isn’t as black and white as that, and there are far more categories than the binary ones that may be a more correct fit for you.
In the context of the book, the ‘sitting on the fence’ reference is playful. This book will not be harmful to bisexual people. It’s actually for challenging this stuff :)
