Spotlight: āButtercupsā by Nai Harvest
The first time you see Nai Harvest is a harrowing, noisy experience. Mine was mid-way The Great Escape Festival back in May. The indie rock duo filled a basement fringe theatre space in mid-town Brighton full of curious onlookers in the middle of the afternoon. They were playing their 3rd show of the weekend (they would play a house show later that night) but they showed no signs of fatigue, making an almighty rackets that caused a steady precipitation of plaster from the ceiling. To say they were electric was an understatement.
The other thing that might shock you when you see Nai Harvest for the first time, is that they are a guitar and drums two-piece. History is full of rough-and-tumble low-fi two man bands, but few sound as a complete as this Sheffield twosome do on this choice cut from most recent album, Hairball. The charming allure of āButtercupsā is thanks in no small part to the sugary guitar tone and Ben Thompsonās vocals, which are full of rasp and bad intentions. Fans of Peace, Drenge and Cloud Nothings will enjoy thes guys.
