Room 317 ✯ Scarlett & Jake
Scarlett had always been the good girl. That's what her father had always told her, and everyone else for that matter.
'She's such a good little girl, so well-behaved, so smart.'
'She's going to be something great, I can just tell.'
'You're daddy's little angel, aren't you?'
The words that used to make her grin for weeks on end now made her stomach turn. Even after all these years. After her father had left it had taken everything in her not to give up. Though she was much younger than she is now, she had honestly wanted to give up. What was the point of being a perfect little princess for a man who had destroyed her family? There was a brief time in her life when her grades slipped drastically and her mother was called into the school to discuss their concerns with Scarlett and how she was handling the divorce, and it was then that she had realised something important.
She wasn't being perfect for him.
Scarlett was a good kid. She was smart and she would be something great, but it wouldn't be anything that he could brag about. He had lost that privilege when he had broken her mother's heart and that's why she focuses so hard on her studies. That's why sometimes she forgets to let go and have a little fun. Because one day she will be the best doctor in the state, hell, maybe even the whole of America, and quite honestly she can't wait for the day when she can rub her success in his face and know that she did it all by herself; for herself.
That's why she can't afford a break. That's why she needs everything to be perfect. Because if she isn't in control, then he is. If she lets go, if she fucks up and doesn't become a doctor, she let his leaving change her. If she gives up now, she should have just given up all those years ago...
So why, oh why, was she sitting in a hotel room, at a lingerie party, waiting for a boy when all she wanted to do was go home and finish that essay?
