Last weekend got the opportunity to meet the talented Michael Dobson at TFCon!!! I know him best as the voice of Starscream from the Unicron Trilogy, which was my first exposure to the character. Armada Starscream in particular was such a great character! Michael was incredibly nice to meet and it was amazing getting to hear him perform IRL. He kindly autographed this pic I drew! Wanted to go for a faux screenshot sort of vibe!

What can I say? When I imagine the voice of Starscream, it's Michael Dobson's voice that I hear!

Super last minute cosplay construction rush! But Sunstreaker is looking good! I have the main structure for his helm and his legs done. I realize I should have gotten the pointed tips on the helm for him properly, but it'll have to be an upgrade for the next TFcon we attend! Because I'm out of time!

Anyway, I got everything sprayed today. Adding a more golden misting to the legs tomorrow morning that matches the pants and jacket better, and I'll get the back side of the vents. Then I'll get those glued in place and we're ready to go!!

After all my taping and painting, the legs turned into Real. Solid. Units. It's gonna be awesome!

If you see @hoistsautobody or me around, please feel free to be creepy and say, "hey, I know you from the internet!" We sometimes have the bandwidth to say hey back and remember how to talk to people.

And! Of course, if I get tired of stumbling around in robot legs all weekend, I am bringing my backup. TWO autobots this time and NO decepticons? Gosh, who am I... But I'll be there as First Aid! whose whole costume fits in the first aid kit I made out of duct tape last time. So keep an eye out for him too! Go Protectobots!

The world is messy and things are bad, but we continue and keep hold of what makes us happy through the looming hard times.

Finally cooking up some Transformers cosplay time! Dyeing for Sunstreaker!

This is my first time actually custom dyeing clothes on the stovetop. All previous experience is tie dyeing outside at summer camps.

It was a two step process for each, the jacket and the pants, to get the final color. So it took a long time and there was a lot of walking in and out of the house and up and down the stairs to the utility sink for the making here....

But let's GO!!!

I'm super happy with how the dye job turned out! I'm SO ready to be obnoxiously hard to look at as Sunny in Chicago later this year for #tfcon2025 .

This whole process took me the better part of 3 and a half hours, but totally worth it for how the final turned out! Pretty good for a first time dyeing.

I've still got some detailing to do on both these pieces with some gold metallic fabric paint I found at Michael's. Still planning to knit over the cuffs and a set of gloves for myself. Also still considering building mech-legs too. But this was a huge leap towards completion!

Looking so cute

I'm trying to make some time this weekend to get the ball rolling! I'm sure once I start, I can get him beaten out quick enough. I'm really excited to cosplay him, as my one and only all-time fav. Some considerations need to be in place for going to Chicago in October when it's bound to be very cold as well.

Drink some more caffeine and get mad enough at work, and I can definitely motivate myself to make it happen! Let's go!

Just over a month until TFCon Chicago, so it's about time to start the actual construction!

Sunny's helm is coming together super quickly and easily. I ran an obscene number of hats at work recently, so I have a bunch of cardboard hat inserts to throw at this project.

The legs are proving a bit harder to shape, but I'm planning a bulk-and-base craft foam layer to form the general shape, and then I'll finish off with more intentionally cut flat panels of poster board. Worst case, I have some shoes to paint black and I'll call it a day.

Hardest part of both is likely going to be hot gluing the yellow vents in place, but we'll see.

It's heavily snowing again and Hell freezes over tomorrow here in the national capital, so some cosplay-adjacent artistic release in the meantime.

I'm doing some concept sketching for half-mecha Sunstreaker-- my ultimate fave-- who I would love to make for #TFCon2025 Chicago in October!

I've never worked with EVA foam before and can't wait to messupmultipletimes-- I mean, finally get to work with it for a costume. I will also likely be sewing up a bomber jacket for him with all the color blocking I'd like to do. Getting all the yellow to match for this project is going to be tough and I look forward to the challenge!
