[Text] Hey, Thomas - how’ve you been? [Text] You want to come over? I’ve got a couple of things to tell you [Text] And I think we need to talk [Text] ...about Halloween and uh...stuff.

Alicia frowned down at the cake. It was problematic for two reasons: first, how had Kai managed to get it into her apartment unknown? He had a key, yes, and was permitted free reign - he’d earned as much trust, and far more - but how he’d done it unnoticed was worrisome.

Secondly, and more concerningly, it was, in fact, football-shaped. It said ‘Go, Falcons!’ along the top and had the football team’s logo on it as well.

Has it been there that long? Alicia raised an eyebrow to the cake, interrogating it with her gaze, but to no effect. “Probably not,” she answered herself aloud. “Just messing with me.” A little smirk tugged at one corner of her lips. “The gall.”

It was enough of a decision, or realization, to satisfy her - for the time being at least - and she stood, stepping to her cutlery drawer and pulling out a fork, a knife from the chopping block, a plate from an overhead cabinet. Her first slice was long, and thin, from one point of the football right through to the middle, and she extracted it on the side of the knife-blade, before depositing it neatly on her plate with a little smile. Perfectly centered.

Then, with no aplomb, she picked up the fork and began to eat, slowly but happily. In one of the other rooms of her apartment, a moan sounded, but her eyes didn’t even flicker that way. He’d wanted to be left hanging, so he was. Besides, she deserved her cake, and she let herself enjoy it entirely.

She picked up her phone off off the table and typed in a message to Kai, quite a long one - she reread it, twice, and then deleted it, replacing it with something far more succinct.

[Text] Come over.

Glancing that over, she decided an addendum was in order.

[Text] The cake was good.

Sometimes, it got tiring maintaining the persona - and that was why she needed him here. Nothing concrete could exist otherwise, but in person, she could be anyone - around the right people, and Kai was definitely one of those. Alicia had a dozen masks she wore (not to mention the literal ones), and fairly few people around whom she could remove them, so she had to take advantage of it when she could.

Kai grinned when he got the texts. He knew she hadn’t been at home earlier, and wondered whether she’d gone as normal, or made a special trip to check the fridge. Either way, he was happy.

[Text] Of course, I’ll swing by. [Text] I’m glad you liked it. You deserve good things.

Alicia smirked at the screen, half-rolling her eyes. There was only one response he could expect to that.

[Text] Hey, Nate - you around? [Text] I was just wondering if you maybe wanted to get together some time? [Text] Grab some food or something, then uh...I don’t know, do something afterwards? [Text] I was in Boston kinda recently, but really busy - but it got me thinking about you and stuff. [Text] How’ve you been?

[Text] Hey, thanks again for coming over for games and stuff! [Text] It was a lot of fun! [Text] Have you gotten a chance to test the necklace, yet? [Text] Just kind of curious, heh

[Text] So...what are your thoughts on maybe bringing another person into things sometime? Wait that’s really an in-person discussion um[Text] You know, I’ve got another friend who’s like...all about tea, but I’ll be honest, I kinda like the bags?[Text] So this time I didn’t shoot myself but I did stab myself a little but just a little and I promise it’ll be okay don’t be mad[Text] So, you’ve got some mind things, um...do you think you could maybe-[Text] I have this thing that lets people share dreams oh wait actually hold on I already talked about it?
