I sit on her shelf, among others alike me. Although they hold page turners and stories for her to get lost amongst, I hold her own. Sometimes I’ll be sat here collecting dust for months, watching until she feels I’m worthy to be held and scrawled into, but I don’t mind. I know her better than anybody does, I hold her dearest memories and the ones she’d rather forget. I guess she see’s me as a therapist she never really had to speak to, somebody she can come to with her deepest thoughts who’ll have no response to them. Sometimes she flicks back to the pages that I’ve held for years, living back through the times filled her life with such fear and sadness and joy and she can’t believe that those times that once consumed her life are now a distant memory. The one thing I do know is that whatever happens in her life, I’ll hold it close to me. I’m the story of her complicated life.
