All six of them share one text chain in which they share memes, complain about teachers or adult superhero life (depending on when in their lives they are), plan super-hero team-up, and gossip about the older heroes. 

Will, Warren, and Layla have a text chain that is just the core three. They mostly talk about their parents and their feelings. Layla usually does most of the talking. Will tends to agree with whatever her assessments are. Warren just sends annoyed emojis, or turns off notifications and ignores the chat. 

Magenta, Ethan, and Zach have a text chain where they mostly talk about the core three and how everything always seems to revolve around them, and how weird/annoying that is. 

Layla and Magenta have a text chain that’s just the two of them. They usually discuss politics. While Layla is more vocal about her politics and Magenta is more reserved about voicing her opinions, Magenta is actually much more liberal and farther left than Layla is. One time Magenta called Layla out on her “white feminism” and the two did not talk for a week. Eventually, Layla came to realize that a lot of her views and actions are still coming from a place of privilege and she and Magenta reconciled. They still talk politics, but Layla is trying to be less domineering about her views and differs to Magenta’s own life experiences as a woman of color. They have not discussed the boys in this text chain once. Magenta had titled their texts as “Bechdel Tested”.

Will, Warren, Ethan, and Zach have a text chain where all they do is talk about the girls. 

Magenta and Ethan have a text chain. But it’s almost never used. They don't have enough interest in common to merit private texts. Most of what they have to say to each other, they will say in one of the shared chains where the others can see and chime in. However, Magenta did use the text chain to confide in Ethan a lot while the drama with her and Layla was going down and they gained a better understanding of each other and deepened their friendship. 

Warren and Will have a text chain that’s just the two of them. It’s usually just Warren texting to bum rides off of Will, since he can fly and Warren can’t. Once, on Warren’s 21st birthday, Warren drunk texted a novel length text about his father, and Will’s father, and how crazy it is that they became best friends when their dads hate each other. They were like Romeo and Juliet but two dudes. Romeo and Tybalt. He also, may or may not have sent the words “I love you”. The next morning when Warren was experiencing his first hang over ever, Will called him to ask him about what he texted. Warren claimed to not remember any of it and Will never pressured him about it again. 

Will and Layla have a private text chain that they’ve had since they first got phones that were able to text. 

My kids will never know a world where texting doesn’t exist. The first time I tried to text was a pretty awful experience. I had the basic-est of phones, a silver, rectangular Nokia that only had a tiny screen and a number pad. People kept telling me that you could type words that made sentences on your phone and they would magically appear to another persons phone. They said it was easier than…
