Miles Penn x reader - flirty cowboy x sweetheart
Or in which reader owns the bakery that almost all the mid-widshire officers go to for their morning coffees. Coincidentally Lucy Chen steps in for the day to be miles penns TO for the day and takes him to the bakery, âsouthern delightsâ.
Warnings: fluff, maybe a kiss. A pinch of violence. Reader is southern and from Texas so I apologize but itâs not too much so itâs still good to read if youâre not a Texan. I think thatâs it! Disclaimer: ây/nâ mentioned a few times, use of maâam to describe reader, and kind of feminine. No direct references to hair color, skin color, or at all explaining how reader looks. I wanted this to be as neutral as I could make it. ďżź
- pt.1 (?)
âWell donât you look lovely this morning Ms.Lucyâ your barely there southern accent made Lucy smile. She always boosted about how cute she thought your accent was, even though you both knew it was hardly there.
Lucy had been coming to the bakery since she was a rookie, you both hit it off and every morning, much like today, she visited for her morning coffee and muffin.
âHey y/nâ she glanced behind her, the man standing behind her looked new, you had never seen him before. âSorry long morning, I wouldâve been in earlier but itâs getting crazy out there alreadyâ Lucyâs voice lingered with sleepiness, you could tell, but you didnât comment.
âSo the usual I assume?â Your eyes lingered on the new guy and then to Lucy. Nodding when she confirmed her order. âCan I have a coffee with that darlin?â
His voice caught you off guard. Your eyes finding his immediately as he spoke. âIâll pay for it officer chen.â His accent was deep, hitting your ears, and reminding you so much of the people you grew up with. Lucy just nodded. She looked at you like she was going to be telling you all about it later.
The man, who you learned was named penn, filled you in on his coffee order, and then paid for both of their drinks. âIt was nice to meet you maâamâ his eyes on yours as Lucy watched the exchange, she knew you were from Texas, and knew you had a soft spot for a southern accent. He extended his hand politely and you gave him yours. âAlso the names milesâ his voice was soft. He was such a charmer
âIt was lovely to meet you too Mr. Milesâ your smile was shy, he shook your hand and pulled away, and Lucy told him to go out to the âshop.â
âHeâs a rookie y/nâ her eyes rolling as you giggled softly âso? You brought me a cowboy luce, no harm in batting my eyelashes at him.â She laughed at you, inding your statement humorous.
âBe safe out there Luce and bring the cowboy by tomorrowâ you both laughed and she walked out.
The next hours were quiet, a few reoccurring customers came in, stayed and chatted, ate, and then left. Till a new guy came in, you had casual conversation till he started to get frustrated that you were taking a little longer with the coffee.
âIâm sorry sir, my machine needs an update, I apologizeâ your voice soft trying to soothe out the frustration that was obvious on his face. He didnât answer and just started fidgeting with his pocket. You had cop friends, you knew to be aware of your surroundings, and right now the man was scaring you on the Inside. You stayed calm though.
âAre you gonna hurry the fuck up or am I gonna have to hurry you up?â His voice was rough and loud. Scaring you more but you kept it inside till you could get a moment to call 911. You moved quickly trying to get your coffee machine to work but to no avail, and you now feared what this inpatient man would do.
âIâm sorry sir, I can get you some free donuts but my machine is bustedâ his eyes twitched, his pupils pinpoint, and his hand moved out of his pocket a gun in hand.
You ducked and moved your way around the counter. You grew up with crazy cousins and learned to defend yourself, but youâve never dealt with anyone that held a gun. You didnât have an opening to call 911 though, so you improvised and grabbed his leg hard, making him fall, and letting the gun slip out of his hands. You kicked it away from him and immediately pulled your phone out.
Your heart was racing, you could hear the blood flowing in your ears as the adrenaline pumped through your veins. âHi Iâm at-â before you could finish the sentence the man had pulled the same move grabbing your leg. You hit the ground hard but you managed to scream out your location. âSouthern delights, man with gun, please send someoneâ your voice was gruff.
The stranger grabbed the arm you held the phone in and twisted it till you let go. A hiss leaving your lips at the soaring pain but that didnât stop you. Your leg moved before you could even think, hitting him in the crotch and watching as he immediately crashed, holding his area, and grunting. âFucking bitchâ
You ignored him, trying to move your wrist but it was no use. The pain was extensive. Thereâs no way a single man couldâve actually broken your wrist. your thoughts wondered completely unaware of Lucyâs voice calling your name until she touched your shoulder.
Her rookie, Penn, was cuffing the man up, and Lucy was looking at you waiting for you to respond. âHis gun is over thereâ your eyes and head moved in the direction to where you had kicked it. âHe got mad because my coffee machine broke, I offered him free donuts but he pulled the gun out, I think he broke my wrist.â
Lucy ended up riding behind your ambulance with Penn in the passenger. You were one of her first friends out here when she became a cop, you guys had so many wine dates, and you knew everything about each other. You mightâve been a little younger but she considered you one of her closest friends.
- a few days later
Your wrist was in a splint, the doctor said it wasnât the worst case heâs seen, but it still scared you. You were lucky he didnât just shoot you when he had the chance. (Not like you have plot armor or anything)
Lucy had stopped by that same morning, Penn in tow behind her carrying a basket. Not like she hadnât dropped off 2 others at your apartment. A small laugh left your lips as your eyes landed on the pair
âWell good morning Ms. Lucy and Mr. Miles. you spoil me Luce, I already have the two other baskets.â Miles just smiled at you and Lucy rolled her eyes
âGod forbid a girl just wants to make sure her best friend is okay, you know this is one of my love languagesâ you laughed softly as Miles put the basket up on the counter
âActually could you put that in the back for me officer? Iâm not suppose to bend my wrist so itâd be hard for me to carry.â Miles just nodded and smiled at your flirty tone âjust through the doors and youâll see a purse, just put it next to thatâ your voice soft as he followed your instructions.
âYouâre horrible y/n. Just ask him out on a date, heâs been asking about you since we went to the hospitalâ a small smile grew on your lips, rolling your eyes at her knowing look.
Before you could respond Miles came out, walked around the counter and smiled at you again. âOkay the usual for yâall?â As they nodded you created the order and started on the drinks, moving slower than normal but they didnât mind too much.
Lucy let Miles pay, waving at you as she left him alone with you. âOkay cowboy, I think youâre cute, and Iâd like to go on a date with youâ your voice soft and teasing. Trying to be as lighthearted as possible incase you read all the obvious signs wrong.
He nodded, smirking instantly âyou beat me to it maâam, how about I take you to the little dinner around the block, I heard they also make Texan cuisineâ you nodded softly, grabbing one of your fancy pink napkins, writing your personal number on it with your not so hurt wrist.
âHere, Iâm expecting you here by 7:30 tonight, I close exactly at 7 so Iâll be ready for you.â You handed the napkin to him and he just laughed, it made you nervous, and you wondered if he was nervous too.
âYes maâam Iâll be here, wouldnât dare miss itâ you carried that same shy smile on your face all day, your usual customers came in, asked how you were, a few of the women brought flowers, and few men told you they wouldâve shot the manâs head off for you.
Today had been such an easy calm shift you were daydreaming about the date, till you got a text from a number at exactly 6:42pm âIâm sorry darlinâ theyâre keeping me for overtime, stay safe, and donât go to the diner.â His text confused you and also made you worry.
Not just for the cute man with a country accent but for your other friends whoâd come in every once in a while. You responded slowly only being able to rely on one hand âitâs okay Miles, we can reschedule, be safeâ
You eventually closed up shop, leaving your bakery and locking the door. Hearing police sirens and ambulances speeding by. It only made the anxiety worse.
When you got home you immediately turned on the news, seeing a hostage situation had taken place at your favorite diner. The one Miles was going to take you to. âJesusâ you muttered to yourself. Though you tried not to worry too much, theyâre trained for this kind of thing, they knew what they were doing.
- the next morning
You woke up groggy, you had stayed up late waiting until you heard back from Lucy or Miles. Which it ended up being later than you expected. They both were alive and okay though.
You didnât rush out the door like you normally would instead you took your time. You decided to actually put some effort into your attire. It was tricky to do your makeup right now so you didnât. You put on a flowy dress that matched the warm weather just right, and matched it with your favorite cowboy boots.
You struggled with actually feeling like yourself after the attack, so this helped a little. But as soon as you were done you were rushing out the door to open up the bakery. Which already had a few usuals outside of it waiting.
The day flew by, today had been one of your busiest. Till about mid-day, itâs when you had a little time to restock and take a break, sit down, rest your feet. But the door bell chimed and you were immediately rushing out from the back just to be met with Milesâ smiling face.
âHey Mr. Cowboy, I figured I wouldnât see you for another few days.â He nodded softly, his smile was sweet almost, making you feel giddy.
âWell that would be the case but todayâs your lucky day, itâs my only day off.â It made you laugh, he seemed exhausted though.
âDonât tell me you came all this way out here just to say hi, you look tiredâ Lucy had warned him you were always caring. Always worried about others. Especially if they looked like they werenât sleeping so good.
Miles nodded sighing softly and letting his shoulders rest âthe situation last night lasted so long, I am exhausted, but I was thinking we could go on a date tonight?â His confession made you feel bad, but you knew he chose that line of work so you didnât feel as bad.
âWell depends on what you had in mind honeyâ your voice teasing. The smile on your lips only growing as he laughed softly at your words.
And thatâs how you ended up in milesâ car as he took you on a drive around the city. Showing you cool little quirks about the city you had lived in for months longer than him. He eventually ended up parking in the perfect spot, you could see houses and the city lights, it was gorgeous.
Miles shared his upbringing with you, how heâd been in Texas since he was born, and you shared yours. He told you how he lived in the exact car you were in now, and he expected something harsh but you just giggled.
âHey if you havenât slept in your car or lived in it, are you really even livinâ life?â He laughed with you, finding comfort in your response. You talked for practically hours. Till his soft hand found your face. Turning you towards his wondering eyes. He leaned in, slowly, giving you time to back out, but you only leaned closer.
His lips were warm and a hum left them when you kissed him back. His hand stayed gently planted on your jaw, rubbing the skin with the pad of his thumb. Heâs the one that pulled away, looking at you like you just blew his mind.
âHow do you smell like sugar and taste just as sweetâ milesâ voice was husky which made the compliment sound even more sexy. (Typing this made me cringe so hard but itâs for the plot)
âDonât talk to me like that cowboy, you sound too yummyâ your voice soft and slightly breathy as you heard him laugh at your words. He pulled you into another soft kiss.
- welp thatâs it for now folks! If this does decently or someone wants a pt. 2 I might be inclined to do that but my next one will be for Lucy cus this was so hard to make, I had to rewrite it so many times because it seemed like reader was more in love with Lucy, but besides that! I hope you enjoyed<3 (if thereâs any grammar mistakes or spelling mistakes PLZ let a girl know, I can edit it and fix it right up!)
