Three years ago while I was teaching, I loopholed my way into using the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty in my classroom. Not really a loophole, the movie is actually based on a short story written a long time ago—fair game in English teacher land. . . My students were not happy. The short story is really boring if you don’t know what to look for. And I wanted to discuss the movie but my students just wanted watch it while they picked their noses. After a lot of heel-digging they finally got into it and we came up with some pretty good stuff. ⠀⠀ . . To quote myself, “My students and I came up with a theory: telling someone or telling yourself to ‘live your dreams’ is stupid.” ⠀⠀ . .
