Hi there, on the post about Teruyo (I have to mention I love this spotlights you are writing) you stated she is one of Kamishichiken four jikata, could you tell me who are the other three? Have a nice day!
Thank you :) The other three jikata geiko are Katsumaru, Shimeyo, and Satonosuke. Katsumaru and Shimeyo are senior geiko (I’m writing spotlight posts for them too) and Satonosuke debuted from Nakazato okiya 2013.
Spotlight on: Teruyo 照 代
Teruyo is a senior geiko and one of Kamishichiken’s four jikata (musician) geiko. The date of her debut is unknown; she may have debuted as a geiko. This year Teruyo was one of the recipients of a special grant from the Ookini Zaidan Foundation, offered to geiko over 65 wanting to pass down their knowledge of the arts to younger members. The other recipients from Kamishichiken were Naoko, Fukuzuru, Shimeyo and Katsumaru. Teruyo has a strong, distinctive voice. You can hear her singing “Kyo no Shiki” with Satoyuki in this video.

November 2012: Geiko Naokazu (Nakasato Okiya) helping senior Geiko Teruyo of Kamishichiken to find the lyrics of a song.
Teruyo-san is one of the oldest active Geiko of Kamishichiken and is one of the only four Jikata Geiko of her district.
