When deciding what spirits went to what kids, my main deciding factor was color palettes.

Lmao, it sounds silly but look:

Each of our protagonists' color palettes reflect the spirit they're assigned to (though a first time viewer who looks at this picture could guess that Koji, J.P, or maybe Zoe were associated with water due to the blues in their ensemble).

With that in mind, Chiaki gets the Spirit of Water and Teppei gets the Spirit of Earth.

And if we're going to follow that rule strictly, then that would mean Katsuharu gets the Spirit of Wood and Teruo gets the Spirit Steel, since Katsuharu's color palette has more hues of brown than Teruo's...

HOWEVER

Given that we know the most about Katsuharu, and the fact that he's a leader, a bit self-aggrandizing, and a former bully, his personality parallels Mercurymon, who manipulated others into getting his desires fulfilled, acted on his own accord, is the most notorious, and although he wasn't the leader of the Corrupted Spirits, he was arguably the most capable.

So instead, I wanted to give Katsuharu the Spirit of Steel and Teruo the Spirit of Wood.

But at the same time, it'd be interesting to give the Spirit of Steel to Teruo, a character we know little about. It's tempting, if I change it last minute, no I didn't lmao.

The premise might need a bit of reworking, but initially, the six Digidestined had received messages on their cell phones telling them to meet at the Shibuya Station four years later after the events of Frontier. However, for reasons, Tommy doesn't make it and the others wait for as long as they can before heading off.

A year passes and Takuya, Koji, Zoe, J.P, and Koichi are still missing. Tommy not only is worried, but suspicious. Time didn't pass during the first visit to the Digital World, so why now? What's even more strange is that other unidentifiable creatures seem to be teleporting in and out all over the world, as if they're fading out like a hologram. So when he receives a second message calling him to the Shibuya Station, he doesn't hesitate.

Translation: Have you ever considerate give the rest of the spirits to the kids who you met?

Tomoki: It´s so cool people send us message in other language!!People from other places see this! Oh...About the spirits, that not our decision, thats the spirit decision. They choose who can use them.  

My Digimon Frontier Sequel WIP

Five years have passed since the Digidestined had hopped aboard onto a train into the Digital World. Defeating the corrupted spirits, Cherubimon, and Lucemon, and subsequently saving the Digital World should've been the end of their story.

It was only just the beginning.

Tommy, now 13 years old, is alone, desperate, and worried. A year prior, Takuya, Zoe, Koji, Koichi, and J.P had all gone missing, last being spotted at the very same train station they used to get to the Digital World. After receiving the same message they received to return to Shibuya Station, Tommy finds the courage to go in alone, find his friends, and possibly save the Digital World and the human world one last time.

What Tommy hadn't expected, was to find Katsuharu, Chiaki, Teppei, and Teruo at the train station, accompanying him on his journey after receiving messages from the missing five, who had asked for their help.

ok one those four would have better outfits . two of them are just wearing t shirts . which is funny compared to the main who all even have a hat but like one maybe two of them .

but id be soooo fun dude !! i think id get whiplash from the fallen warriors have normal voices tho . also especially funny on that line is imagining the risen warriors with funny speech things/accents of their own also ? oh my goodness .

but !!! aaaa imagine how much the story would differ with the different leads !!! whole new personalities and actions and motives and !!! id be so fun . and honestly they deserve it too those kids need some screen time and character development <3 .

okay i've realized i haven't answered it yet ah . well !!! i think they'd follow a much different path then the og's ? like say they're starting in steel town , teruo would probably get his spirit first due to theme ? (like . flame terminal → fire spirit . steel town → steel spirit) . the dynamics would be different since katsuhara n teppei already know each other . maybe a corrupted spirit of light ?

also envisioning the conflicting spirits a little more jus cause it's fun to think abt . also u think about how tbh the risen warriors' spirits just . generally sound more dangerous ? sans a couple . like ice apposed to wood or fire compared to water ? the risen warriors look less threatening but their elements are arguably more threatening .

i don't know quite how it would go bc i don't know the kids' personalities well enough to know exactly how they'd react to situations or what their reasonings for actions would be . but !! as i've said i do think they'd follow a way different path for sure for sure . a forest based episode where they find the wood spirit would be soo fun actually . i don't think theres a ton of forest located episodes ? and a win for everyone ! early beach episode ! *everyone cheers* .

it's fun to think abt bc it's very up to interpretation as the kids (unfortunately) aren't very expanded on !!! it's a little sandbox !!! a fun adventure you can mold a bit !!!
