Guess whoās back! Back Again!
Hello, Hello Iām back for the second installment of my Digimon Frontier in Other Media, specifically continuing with putting the kids and spirits in DnD.
Before we start I just want it known that these two were the hardest for me to choose anything for and part of the reason I needed those required classes. And Iām still fairly early in my rewatch of the show before any of Tommyās real character development so most of this is based on what I remember from my last rewatch.
1.2: Digimon Frontier in Dungeons & Dragons ā Tomoki/Tommy Himi and Chackmon
1.2.1 Tomoki/Tommy Himi
I did enjoy Tommyās original character arc from the series, but with that I really didnāt get a feel for how he was for the most part beside him wanting to become more independent. He simply falls into the little brother characterization for the majority of the show so Iād be fine maybe leaning on charisma for the most part.
Iām just gonna start with his Paladin subclass because Iāve had a hard time choosing anything for this boy, and I need a place to start. And I think Oath of Devotion is maybe the best fit for Tommy, really it's probably my favorite for Tommy. Most of the Devotionās tenets reflect Tommy at the end of the series, and he was very devoted to his group for the majority of the runtime. He wanted to follow in Takuyaās footsteps to become braver and held himself to a high standard he thought matched what was expected of him as a Legendary Warrior. He was honest, he never feared to act even when faced with things he did fear, he wanted to protect others that couldnāt protect themselves, he acted in fairness when possible, and heās āunwilling to simply stand around when he can helpā. Really thatās maybe the best fit though I'd still like to mention Oath of the Ancients as a possible second option.
The only other charisma class that fits him even a little is maybe Bard, specifically any of them more focused on story telling than singing. Now Iām not saying that Tommy canāt be a hotting-and-hollering, but I think it doesnāt fit as well. College of Lore bards āknow something about most things, collecting bits of knowledgeā which I thought could work for Tommy because he was trying to grow into his own person throughout the original series. Another interesting one would be the College of Spirits - yes partly because hehe he uses a spirit - because they āseek tales with inherent powerā which could fit with his whole self discovery thing.Ā
Something else I looked at was maybe Fighter to have him kinda reflect Takuya. Maybe a Rune Knight to give him magic adjacent abilities.
Really I donāt think any of the warlock subclasses fit him that well. The best one I could decide on was The Genie (Water) but none of them really had a focus on ice and winter.
When I was thinking about which race I should pick I really wanted to go with one of the larger races, mostly because Tommy has a growth spurt after canon events - according to the audio drama. I like him being a Firbolg, particularly because theyāre often cow-like in their designs which remind me of AncientMegatheriummon (I know AMT is an Ancient Goat Thing but still). Though Goliaths have a natural resistance to cold damage that I think would be neat.
For his background I think him being a hermit would be interesting for Tommy if he was some kind of bard which could be why heās trying to learn so much. Though if he was anything else I think him being an Artisan Merchant instead could be interesting it looking like his family was at least kinda well off - if Iām remembering correctly - and even him being an Artisan Bard could be interesting in that's how he started learning so much.
1.1.2 Chackmon
Chackmon embodiment of ice and maybe my least favorite of the human spirits. Though itās still cute I always felt overwhelmed by Chackmon and its use in fights, but Fairimon is probably worse in fight uses but I like the fairyās design more than the teddy bear. In its actual description - which is kinda all I have to go on with the spirits - it is stated that āSince it rarely acts of its own volition, it primarily operates in response to someone's requests or ordersā and it also gets depressed if nobody gives it a job. Which is funny for something born from a giant goat. But itās also ā its precision conduct in battle are genuine, and its survivalist knowledge also has a strong, truly reliable existence.ā which I can use to pick something.
Obviously Gunslinger is an obvious choice for it as a fighter, but it is also an unofficial subclass but it still probably fits the best. Arcane Archer could be a good replacement, changing Chackmonās gun into a bow.Ā
Ranger is the next thing I looked to because of the comment about it being a survivalist. Monster Slayer Conclave is a good choice if I was gonna make any of the spirits rangers. The description of Monster Slayers talks about how oneās dedicated to āhunting down creatures of the night and wielders of grim magicā which is exactly what the ancient warriors did to end up facing off with Lucemon. Beast master could be a fun choice since Chackmon was the most beast-like human spirit that was seen until the evil warriors were introduced. The last ranger subclass I looked at was the Hunter Conclave, and I think it could work if we look at it like how it acts - someone that wants to help with the biggest threats and always wants to be helpful.
I did end up looking at druids, but the only one that really caught my eye was Circle of the Land because it has arctic listed as an option for their circle spells.
I really donāt think any of the Sorcerer subclasses fit Chackmon. Wild Magic could be an option for a similar reason as above, it's the most beast-like out of the original five spirits, but that's a pretty big stretch.
Really I think its paladin subclasses are the same as Tommyās. Oath of Devotion and Oath of the Ancients just fit Chackmon so well when looking at what makes Chackmon itself. Devotion is an understatement when it comes to Chackmon and its causes, as it literally feels depressed at the thought of not being useful. And Ancients is like how Iāve said it fits the others as well.
In terms of which race Iād make it, I really donāt know. I think it being a bugbear could be fun. Like with Firbolgs and Goliaths that are some of the largest races, and theyāre considered a goblinoid which I think is funny. Hobgoblins are similar to Bugbears, but smaller and with a few extra fey abilities which feel like they may fit with Chackmon a little better. If I wanted to go a different path I could always make it a Werebear, and if I did that I could always make it some kind of Wood Elf, or Human.
I really think he could only be a soldier. Yeah thereās really not much else to say about Chackmon, it coded to be a soldier and gets sad if itās not something useful. I think either scout or infantry would be the best specialty for it.

Without Kenai from āKoda Brother Bearā I would have never loved Junpeiās character so much. Kenai is the beginning of my love for grey characters, or better, a$$ dudes being humbled through many kinds of paths.
Anyway, Junpei looks more like a bear than human Kenai ever did. So this makes it even more hilarious. I should turn Tomoki and Junpei into bears once, because itās funny.
I see early Tomoki and Junpei in them, but Tomoki is just a polar bear cub. Junpei is grizzlyšš».
