So Audrey (the daughter) was gay, right? At first I thought it was a fun “what if” and that they’d have some other reveal (straight) to her family. Then she had that scene in the car where she’s singing along to Valerie by Steve Winwood and I started genuinely considering it. And that’s before Jeanette and her meet.
There is this one scene, I unfortunately can’t remember the exact context, but her mom (Denise) is looking at her photo of the dad and it cuts to Audrey and Jeanette.
The set up with Brian (the son) showing interest in Jeanette, only for her and Audrey to get close makes perfect sense for the 80s tropes the movie toyed with. When Brian stands at the door while they were comforting each other really sealed the deal for me.
