Rose nods, but doesnât look up as she puts the last of the hot biscuits onto the cooling rack. âChocolate chip.â
The Doctor hugs her with one arm and grabs a handful of warm biscuits with the other. âThey smell delicious,â he says.
âMmm-hmm,â says Rose. Her look is almost, but not quite, a glare.
âWha?â says the Doctor. His innocent look is spoiled a bit by his mouthful of sweets.
She crosses her arms. âYou seem to have an amazing knack for coming out from wherever youâre hiding exactly when Iâm done with whatever Iâm baking. Iâm even done with the cleanup, except for this last pan.â
He grins. âItâs not a knack, itâs a gift. Very gifted, me.â
âEvery single time, Doctor.â She narrows her eyes.
The Doctor looks away.
âWhat is it? Do you peek around corners? Creep up on the floor? If you do I canât ever catch you, and believe me I try.â
He actually looks sheepish. Rubbing his hand on the back of his neck, he says, âI set my sonic to tell me when you turn off the oven.â
Rose bursts out laughing.
Wrapping her arms around his neck--and intentionally leaving a smear of flour on his cheek--she says, âNext time, love, just sit at the kitchen table. Drink tea, read a book. Keep me company. I wonât make you help, I can about guarantee that. Youâre a disaster in the kitchen.â
âOi! Gifted, remember?â
She nods seriously, biting her lip to keep from laughing. âYes, of course. Do you recall your declaration that you could improve upon popcorn popping methods?â
The Doctor winces. Instead of popping, the kernels had shot out of the pan like tiny firecrackers, pinging all over the room, breaking anything and everything, and then exploding.
He brightens. âBut I make excellent tea!â
Rose kisses his nose. âYes you do. I have no idea how the blender makes tea now, or what Iâm going to do if I ever want to make margaritas, but youâre absolutely right, your tea is brilliant.â

Summary
Three months after Rose and the Doctor are reunited and promptly ditched on a beach in Norway, they are still trying to find their feet. Â Rose plans a trip to Barcelona for them to relax, reconnect, and hopefully consummate their relationship.
Rose sank into the window seat, arranging her rolling bag at her feet. Â Her present view was just of the train at the next platform, but once they were out of the station she anticipated gorgeous views of the English countryside.
âGood spot.â
Rose looked up at the approving tone, smiling slightly as the Doctor settled next to her. Â âThanks.â Â Sheâd chosen the spot specifically with him in mind; they were at the head of the traincar, with nothing in front of them but plenty of space for him to stretch his legs. Â His own bag went next to hers, and he reached for her hand. Â She gave it willingly, lacing their fingers together and resting the joined palms on her thigh.
She could already see the difference this impromptu trip was making in him. Â Heâd been here, in this universe, for almost three months now. The first couple of weeks had been good, catching up and getting him settled. Â Shopping and paperwork had been interspersed with tours of London and playing with Tony, telling stories and relearning each other. Â But once the dust had settled heâd grown restless, and she had to give credit where it was due â heâd tried very hard to hide it. Â She knew him, though, could still recognize that longing look in his eye that heâd have when theyâd stay on the TARDIS for too long a stretch.
Sheâd booked this trip the next day. Â Theyâd had to wait until his passport came in, but that was yesterday and today they were on their way.
Now he was calm, looking around in interest at their fellow passengers and out the windows. Â âHow longâs this leg?â
âTwo and a half hours,â she checked their travel documents. Â âThen a forty-five minute layover, then another five on the TGV.â
âThe âTGVâ,â he scoffed, âwhat an original name. âHigh speed trainâ. Â Brilliant.â Â His free hand carded through his hair, ruffling the strands heâd spent twenty minutes on that morning to the point of nearly making them late.
âYouâre right, âUndergroundâ is much cleverer,â she teased, grinning up at him. Â âItâs almost as if someone thought it might be a good idea for the name to be descriptive.â
The Doctorâs jaw dropped, staring down at her for a moment before pursing his lips and harrumphing. Â âGo ahead and mock, Rose Tyler.â
She waited, but he didnât say anything else, just determinedly staring out the window over her head. Â âNo need to pout, love, weâre on holiday! You should be happy.â
His expression softened, and he beamed at her. Â âI am happy, my love,â he emphasized the endearment, and Rose suspected their faces would crack any moment from so much smiling, âcause Iâm with you. Â Plus, weâre finally alone.â
That was true; after four years of bedtime stories from his big sister about her heroic alien âfriendâ, Tony had been in awe of meeting the Doctor in the flesh, even more so than the time they took him to meet Elmo. Â Every second that her brother was awake he clamored for the Doctor and Roseâs attention, barely letting them have a moment to themselves. Â The odd times that they did find themselves alone for the day, inevitably one of her parents would interrupt, hijacking them until Tony woke from his nap.
But now they had ten uninterrupted days alone.  They were on their way to Barcelona (the city not the planet), where Rose had rented a house for the week.  No parents, no brother, hopefully no alien encounters â other than what she had planned for the one next to her.  Sightseeing, sunbathing⌠and, she crossed her fingers, hopefully some shagging.  Or at least brilliant snogging.
The train started moving then, and she squeezed his hand in excitement. Â âHere we go!â Â Rose let go momentarily to shove up the armrest between them, and they cuddled together by the window as the train left the station and made its way through the city.
She was so distracted by his long, lean body pressed against hers, she almost missed a point of interest. Â Using the GPS on her mobile to verify they were in the right spot, she nudged him before gesturing out the window. Â âSee this park here?â
âYeah?â
âYou canât quite see it but if you follow these paths, theyâll take you around towards the construction.â
âOh? Â And what are they constructing?â he murmured in her ear, sending a rush of warmth through her veins.
âThe Olympic park.â
âOh, are they doing that here?â he asked in delight. Â âI didnât ask.â
She grinned at him in the reflection of the window. Â âYep! Next summer now. Â Coming soon.â
âThink theyâll let me carry the torch?â
âThey didnât let you the first time,â she shot back, âand hopefully, the Isolus wonât get lost in this universe.â
He hummed softly. Â âWell, actually, all things considered, it wouldnât be that big a deal if it happened again. Â I mean, no one died, and honestly, I think it helped that family more than it hurt. Â What was their name?â
âWebber,â Rose said promptly. Â âChloe and Trish.â
He went still behind her for a moment before pressing his lips to the side of her head, hard. Â âI love that you still remember that,â he whispered. âI love you.â
Her heart skipped a beat as it always did, and she took a moment to savor those words, how easily he said them, how often he said them. Â âI love you too.â
Theyâd had breakfast before leaving the house, but shortly before they entered the Chunnel the Doctor stood, stretching. Â âI could use a cuppa â you?â
Rose didnât hesitate to sprawl out across both seats. Â âSure, ta.â Â She watched him walk away, whistling, before calling him back. Â âWait!â
âWhatâs wrong?â Â He hurried over to her.
She dug in her purse. Â âOne â the galleyâs the other way, and two â dâyou have cash?â Â She glanced up to see him grinning, wallet in hand.
âAs a matter of fact, I do,â he said smugly, as if two days ago he hadnât almost gotten them arrested because heâd forgotten to pay for lunch.
Rose relaxed, sinking back in her seat, unable to wipe the happiness from her face. Â âGreat. Â Oooh, I could go a chocolate croissant though, if theyâve got any.â
He blinked down at her, looking almost offended. Â âWeâll be in Paris in an hour, and you want a croissant from a train?â
âYep!â
He shook his head, walking away muttering under his breath.
âI heard that!â
In Paris they changed trains, stopping to grab pastries and lunch to go. Â Settled in their seats on the TGV, Rose immediately pulled out one of the croissants and tore it in two, offering half to the Doctor. Â She had the window again, and they snuggled together to watch the French countryside fly by.
âSo this is probably a ridiculous question, but have you ever been to Paris?â Rose asked, leaning back against his chest.
âOf course,â he answered as expected. Â âA number of times. Once, I came with my friend Romana. Â Was it before? No- Â not long after she regenerated. Â We were here as tourists-â
âWait, regenerated? Â She was a Time Lord?â Rose bolted upright, turning to stare at him.
The Doctor ruffled his hair, an uncertain expression on his face. Â âYes- well, Time Lady. Â She traveled with me for a while in her first and second incarnations.â
âOh,â she exhaled, mind whirling.  For some reason, sheâd never pictured him travelling with anyone but a human.  âWere you⌠involved?â
âWhat, romantically?â Â His concern seemed to be fading, only to be replaced with confusion. Â âUgh, no. Â She is- well, was, I suppose- one of my best friends, and a good ally whenever I had to return home, but- decidedly not.â
âOkay.â Â Rose shook her head, resettling herself in his arms. Â âSorry, minor jealous freakout over. Â You were tourists?â
He kissed the side of her head, arms tightening around her. Â âRight. Anyway, we were wandering around, taking in the sights, when we realized someone was messing with time. Â Long story short, an alien of the species Jagaroth had tried to take off in his spaceship some odd 400 million years ago, the ship blew up, and fragments of his consciousness were scattered forward through the centuries. Â The one in 1979 Paris was posing as a Count, trying to raise funds to build a machine that would send him back to just before the explosion to stop it.â
âDid he succeed?â
The Doctor scoffed. Â âThe ship exploding mixed with the amniotic fluid on the ground, creating amino acids and effectively life on Earth.â
âSo it was a paradox,â Rose guessed, tilting her head back to see his chin. Â âHe could never succeed âcause if he did he wouldnât have been splintered in the first place, and there wouldâve been no humanity to help him get back to the explosion.â
âExactly,â the Doctor confirmed after a moment. Â âI must say, Rose, you follow this a lot better than you used to.â
âExperience,â she replied simply. Â âI spent two years hopping from dimension to dimension. Â I had to understand â it was do or die.â
He traced his finger over her face, starting with her cheek before skating over her lips, nose, and brow, feather light. Â The touch still made her shiver, leaning heavier into him. Â He never spoke, and eventually she turned to look out the window again, the countryside flying by.
The slight rocking of the train must have lulled her to sleep, because she jerked awake at the conductor announcing, âGare de Narbonne! Â Narbonne!â
Struggling to untangle herself from the Doctorâs grip, she sat up, blinking. Â The sky was beginning to darken, and she realized it was the last stop before their own. Â âDoctor?â Â She gently shook him awake as the train began to move again. Â âWake up, please.â
His eyes cracked open, a loud yawn echoing in the otherwise quiet car. Â âWhereâre we?â
âNarbonne, weâre next.â
âHow long?â
âBout thirty minutes, I think.â
âOh, okay.â Â And his eyes drifted shut again. Â Rose waited a moment, before viciously pinching his side. Â âOi!â
âDonât fall back asleep,â she hissed, âweâll be there before we know it. Â Come on, letâs clean this stuff up.â
He grumbled, still yawning, but did as she asked. Â By the time all the trash had been discarded and theyâd each made a trip to the loo, they were pulling into the station.
âGare de Perpignan! Â Perpignan!â
The train stopped and they stood, the Doctor snatching Roseâs bag before she could. Â âLead the way,â he nudged, and she did, stepping off the train and quickly locating the car rental booth.
âErm, bonjour- ah, bonsoir, je mâappelle Rose Tyler, jâai une reservation?â
Getting the car was relatively painless, despite being able to sense the Doctorâs desire to jump in and take over. Â Thankfully he was wise enough to let her handle it, merely following her to the rental car where she froze, keys in hand.
It was exactly what sheâd ordered: a midnight blue, sparking convertible in a shade as close to the TARDIS as she could get. Â But looking at the vehicle reminded her of a key difference between England and the Continent â the steering wheel was on the other side.
âDâyou want me to drive?â the Doctor offered, already popping the trunk and loading the bags.
âNo, I can do it, I just need you to navigate for me,â Rose said, biting her lip. Â How hard could it be?
âAlrighty, then.â Â And he opened the right-side door with a flourish, waiting expectantly.
Smiling, she shook her head, walking around to the left and opening the door for herself. Â âThanks, love.â
âRight.â Â He yawned again, ruffling his hair sheepishly as he slid in. Â âThis is nice.â
âI wanted to feel the wind in my hair,â Rose explained, carefully adjusting her mirrors and seat before starting the car. Â âOkay, weâve got about thirty kilometers to go tonight so we cross the border into Spain. Â Then we can drive along the coast in the daylight.â
âMolto bene.â
She eased the car out of the space, watching carefully as she got out onto the street. Â Fortunately traffic was light, just enough cars on the road to remind her which side to be on. Â She deliberately drove out of her way for a few minutes as practice, before making her way over to the divided highway, holding her breath until sheâd smoothly merged with traffic. Â So long as she kept going straight she wasnât too worried, and was soon comfortable enough to steal glances every so often at the farmland on the side of the highway.
âSo, you havenât said what all youâve got planned for this week,â the Doctor mentioned, startling her; heâd been quiet for so long, sheâd thought heâd fallen asleep again.
âOh, the usual,â she said flippantly, âsun, sand, se- spending time alone with you.â Â Rose bit her lip hoping he couldnât see her blush, and more importantly, hadnât caught her slip of the tongue. Â She wanted to discuss their physical relationship with him, but hurtling down a motorway at 100 kph didnât seem like the best time.
âThat it?â Â His voice was warm, and to her surprise, he settled his palm on her thigh, thumb stroking at the sensitive skin.
âSightseeing! Â Weâre not too far from Barcelona, so I figured we could drive in a couple days, do the tourist thing.â Â She swallowed, warmth pooling in her stomach. Â His gaze was heavy on her, but not uncomfortable â more of a cozy duvet during the winter type of weight, rather than oppressive. Â Could he, possibly, already be on the same page?
âYeah, all right,â he was nodded approvingly when she snuck a peek at him, âalso, love the alliteration.â
âJust for you, babe.â Â Her laugh was off, too high-pitched and breathless, but it was genuine, and he giggled along.
They rode in silence after that, Rose focusing as the traffic picked up around her, the Doctor a steady but still presence next to her but for the occasional direction. Â They made it to the hotel soon enough, and once again he rushed to carry her bag for her, dutifully trailing behind as she checked them in.
Despite the fact theyâd been sleeping in the same bed since his arrival, anticipation sparked between them as they reached the room. Â For the first time, there would be no risk of interruption â no Tony to come bounding in, no Jackie to pester them down to breakfast.
Rose threw open the door, nearly dancing inside â until she stopped dead, the Doctor crashing into her back in his own haste.
âOi! Â Whyâd you stop- oh.â Â His chest was warm against her back as they stood there, staring at the twin beds. Â A beautiful antique nightstand stood between the beds, and Rose had a nasty feeling that it would be quite heavy, if not impossible, to move.
âThey were supposed to give us a king,â she moaned, as the two bags dropped to the ground behind her. Â âShit. Â And the girl said we were the last to check in, too.â
âWe can make do,â the Doctor said bravely. Â âItâs one night.â
âYeah.â Â Rose supposed it was for the best, as she lifted her weekender onto the bed closer to the window. Â The anticipation and impatience was making her ache, and if they slept curled up together she couldnât promise to control herself, and she didnât want that. Â She wanted to have a conversation about it first, a likely excruciating and humiliating conversation, and make sure they were on the same page.
Plus, she didnât want anyone to overhear them â she suspected they would be loud.
Tentoo is concerned about Rose after they are left on Badwolf Bay for the last time.Â

It was insurance, really. He'd just peek in on her then immediately go back to his room. After all, It had been an especially taxing day for both of them, and he just wanted to make sure that she was okay. The fully Time-Lord Doctor had gone, abandoning them on a beach that they both loathed for the second and final time, in a rather abrupt manner. He would have done the same, or he did do the same because he was still the Doctor. He was down a heart and a respiratory bypass, but he was still the same man, even if he did feel oddly imbalanced. How did they get around with one heart? Funny little creatures and he was one of them now.
He laid his hand on the right side of his chest, a sigh escaping him at the empty feeling. The other Doctor was gone, the TARDIS was gone, and his second heart was isolating herself several rooms away from for reasons that he did not know.
"Doctor?"
He sat up in the bed quickly, sonic screwdriver in hand and aimed towards the disembodied voice in the doorway. It took a moment for his eyes to adjust, but he was immediately relieved when he recognized the backlit figure in his door, "Rassilon, Rose!" He threw back the sheets, dropping the sonic as he quickly moved out of bed to make his way over to her, his voice soft as he questioned her, "Are you alright?"
"I'm always alright. I just-" he heard her voice catch and watched as she brought her arms up around herself.
"Oh, Rose." The Doctor pulled her against him once he was close enough to do so, her arms coming around his waist as she wept into his chest.
The room was silent for a while aside from the sound of Rose crying, the room echoing with her harsh breaths and sobbing. As she began to settle down, he moved away from her and guided her to the bed, pushing softly on her shoulders to get her to sit. His mouth found the top of her head of their own bidding, his lips leaving a gentle kiss to the crown before he fell to his knees in front of her. The Doctor moved her hands away from her eyes so he could wipe at her cheeks, a smile crossing his face as he cupped her face between his hands and spoke softly, "There now, that's enough of that. Tell me what's bothering you?"
Rose hiccupped as she stared at him, her hands coming up to move his hands from her face and cradle them in her lap within her own as she responded, "I dreamt that you left me again. I just-" she drew in a quick breath of air, "I just needed tâ see you. I'm sorry. I must look so stupid." She moved one of her hands to rub at her eyes, her other hand lacing her fingers with his own.
"Oh never, not to me." He responded, moving his free hand to rub at the back of his own head sheepishly and ruffling his hair in the process, "I was actually thinking about coming to check on you."
He watched her as she blinked a few times, her teeth catching her bottom lip in a nervous manner before she released it and spoke, "Really?"
The Doctor's eyes' trailed down her body and stopped on her legs, the back of his hand gently trailing across her bare thigh as he tried to think of words to say. She was wearing a baby pink pair of shorts and a matching cami and they were now making it very hard for him to think when he had a lot of words and all of them were hard to say. His fingers snagged the hem of her shorts as he began to talk, the silky material flowing gently against his skin, "I know that we haven't had much time to talk since the beach and we certainly never had many emotional conversations on the TARDIS, but I want you to know that I meant every word I said on the beach," he finally moved his eyes to lock onto hers, his gaze intense and voice unwavering, "I am in love with you, Rose Tyler, and I always have been, always will be. I will love you until the last star dies and even longer. I may have given you all of time and space, but you gave me a reason to live again. If you need time to decide if this is what you want, I can give you that. You've done your fair share of waiting and I think - Well, I think I can do mine if need be."
There was a heavy silence between them as his speech drew to a close, his chest tight as he waited with bated breath for her to respond. He saw the moment that Rose made her decision, her face drawing close to his in a painstakingly slow manner and stopping only when her mouth was a minute distance away from his," Thank you." Her words were a breathy puff of air against his lips before she leaned in the rest of the way to kiss him.
The kiss was soft and chaste, nothing at all like the intensely passionate one they had shared on the beach earlier in the morning. The Doctor drew his arms around her slowly, his hands memorizing the curve of her waist as he pulled her against him. He hummed as she put her arms around his neck, her fingers twining through his hair and scraping his scalp in a way that caused him to groan.
She kissed him softly a few times before moving away and letting her forehead rest against his own, her breath coming in soft pants.
"Not that I didn't enjoy that, but what were you thanking me for?" he said roughly as his gaze lingered on her lips before trailing up to her closed eyes.
"For saying it again." she replied, her eyes opening and regarding him with a startling intensity that caused his breath to catch in his throat and his chest to tighten, "I love you, too"
He felt himself shiver. Rassilon, he would never get tired of hearing that.
"Now, Doctor, let's go tâ bed. You're human now and that pretty vessel will need its beauty sleep." She said, unwinding herself from him and climbing up the bed to settle in for the night.
He cocked his eyebrow at her, a smirk playing across his lips as he moved to make his way onto the bed with her, "You think I'm pretty?" he asked her jovially as he fell into bed beside her.
She laughed and grabbed for his pillow, smacking him with it as she responded, "Like you need tâ hear it, your ego doesn't need the boost."
He moved under the sheets, pulling her to him and kissing her face a few times as she laughed, "Why Doctor, is that your sonic or are you just happy tâ see me?"
The Doctor pulled back from her, one of his hands moving beneath the sheet before coming up with a soft 'aha', "Just the Sonic, dropped it in the bed when you suddenly appeared in my door."
They stared at each other a moment before breaking out in laughter. He rolled onto his back, pulling her against him gently as their giggles died off, "Goodnight, Rose Tyler."

We celebrate Tentoo on both October 2 and February 10âboth written 10/2 in the US and the rest of the world, respectively. They both have pros. October 2nd is right at the start of the Tenth Doctor month, but February 10th is written 10/2 in Britain, and Doctor Who is a British show.
So. Why not do both?
Welcome to Tentoosday: Better With Two Edition
So this is on Sunday? Correct! Weâll be celebrating Tentoo all day this Sunday, February 10 (and maybe a few days after because past experience tells us this is a busy holiday). ;)
How do I participate? Use the tag #tentoosday (no apostrophe) to tag your work as part of the event. Please also @-mention us at @doctorroseprompts and tag us too (#doctorroseprompts) to make sure we see it and reblog it.
Iâm nervous I donât know enough about Tentoo. Thatâs ok, Skyler has a handy list of meta links in her Fandom Guide here (x).
Okay, Iâm in. Do you have prompts? Well, we have years of Tentoo x Rose prompts here! Take a look, and happy writing!
@doctorroseprompts -- I made it! With 49 minutes to spare! ;) This is my contribution for Tentoosday, February 10, 2018. (And also, since itâs coming up this week, Happy Valentineâs Day!)
This is for @timepetalscollective @doctorroseprompts Tentoos day and another little prompt...
Six months after landing in Peteâs world, the Doctor received a death threat.
Honestly, Pete and Rose Tyler were more surprised that it hadnât happened sooner. Peteâs Torchwood made their universe a safer place, but there was no shortage of adventure and danger for the Doctor and Rose to stumble into. The human Doctor was still rude and brilliant, but he was now sorely lacking the ability to regenerate and the means to escape to another planet.
It was rather unfortunate, considering that Jackie Tyler wanted to murder him.
âI havenât slept in forever because of you and your barmy alien ideas!â A plate soared through the air, shattering against the wall behind the wide-eyed Doctor. âThe bloody instrument keeps playing the same bleeding songs over and over!â He ducked the next plate and dove beneath the kitchen table. âI canât even take it away from him,â Pete and Rose winced at the sound of another crash, âBecause Tony LOVES the stupid thing and itâs entirely YOUR fault!â
âYouâre just going to leave him in there?â Pete whispered as they tiptoed away from the kitchen.
âI told him not to buy a xylophone or any musical instrument for Tony after the last time, but he insisted.â Rose rolled her eyes.
âHe tinkered with it, didnât he?â Pete groaned as upstairs the grating music started up again accompanied by jarring off-key singing that no human was ever meant to hear. It was loud enough to shake the entire house. âIf Jacks doesnât do it first, Iâm going to kill him.â
The Doctor suddenly burst free from the kitchen, snagging Roseâs hand and dragging her after him.
âRun,â he told her.
âDONâT YOUR DARE LEAVE UNLESS YOUâRE TAKING THE BLOODY XYLOPHONE WITH YOU!â
Laughing, Rose and the Doctor ran for their lives, blissfully unaware that Jackie would get revenge when they had children of their own.
