So s1 bucktommy is a season 1 au where, after Bobby fires and rehires Buck in the pilot, he does so with the caveat that Buck be mentored by an older firefighter, and wouldn’t you know it, he knows just the former team member for the job: Tommy Kinard. Here’s a very rough draft snippet (mild suicide cw but in a kind of jokey way)

When Bobby had called him for the favor, Tommy had been tempted to laugh him off. The idea that he could mentor anyone is mildly insane.

It’s only been about four months since he could first look himself in the eye in a mirror and say I am gay without wanting to go hang himself from his ceiling fan. That doesn’t scream mentor material.

But, it’s not as if Bobby knows. If he had any notion of the way Tommy’s a barely held together bag of jagged glass on a good day, he would’ve asked literally anyone else.

Which is why Tommy knows he should say no. Bobby doesn’t know he’s a bad choice, but he does. But, there’s a not insignificant part of him that thinks about why he’s nothing but fractured pieces. About how if maybe he’d had someone looking out for him the way Bobby’s obviously looking out for this Evan kid, he might be a whole different person today.

This is more of an issue with the fandom, but I think people need to develop/apply more critical thinking skills in general, and especially in acknowledging when writers are doing things that are Problematic(TM) if they were to happen irl but are clearly in-universe being done for convenience and/or as a plot device and are not intended to be blown out of proportion or treated like big dramatic Events that are Horribly Traumatic if the characters don't seem to be bothered at all.

As an adult, did you wind up doing what you thought you’d be doing when you were a kid? I was going to say “not even close,” but I always imagined being a writer and I *am* a writer! The rest of it, though, was definitely unanticipated!
