Our Iceland holiday was the only trip where we had to endure two (2) transits before reaching our destination. There was no direct flight and no one transit flights from Kuala Lumpur to Keflavik. Balancing price and total travel time, we finally decided to go with Qatar Airways; cost us RM4259 per pax; total travel time roughly 24 hours, including transits. Qatar Airways took us through the first leg of our journey, transiting at Doha and Copenhagen. From there we boarded Icelandair to Keflavik. Only thing I can comment about Icelandair is that part of the cabin door fell off when we took off and we landed with a loud thumping. Landing safely was a great relief. Keflavik Airport is small but very crowded. Colourful. I had to pick up the Internet hotspot rental from someone working at the Ten Eleven store; very odd; the guy who handing me the box was not friendly; not helpful. Not being IT savvy it took a while to get it working. It was also chaotic and unnerving looking out for the car rental guy who was supposed to come take us to the depot. But finally, things were sorted out and we got our car. Since it is too early to check into our hotel, we decided to go see what attractions there are within the Golden Circle. It was late afternoon, and super tired from the flight, we decided to visit the geyser and Gullfoss. To explore Þingvellir National Park would take too much time. Parts of the roadway throughout the Golden Circle was very narrow and made from rough gravel; at times I questioned whether we were really on the Golden Circle. It took almost 2 hours to reach the Great Geysir and Strokkur Geysir. We did stop briefly to take pictures along the way. You cannot help but stop when in Iceland. There's always something to make you stop to look. From the geysers, it is a short 10 minutes to Gullfoss. For now, let me say that these two attractions are breathtaking. No entrance fee for both these places. If you come to Iceland, it is a great sin not to come experience seeing Gullfoss.
