This post will be controversial for The Incredibles fandom, because the topic is Synlet Today's Discourse. I have see a lot of hate towards the ship from some fans and I can understand the reasons why people hate this ship: the age gap, toxicity and Buddy being the villain of the Parr story. Listen, I can understand that you may dislike the ship but I can't understand that you hate its fans and bully them because of the fictional ship.
Here I want to explain why this hate is a little bit forced. Last chance: there will be stitches and I may look meany. If you still want to stay, then you can read.
1. Violet is a teen (14-15 y/o) and Buddy is a whole some adult around his 25 y/o + he has seen her in her teen's ages!
Yes, the ship is controversial by this fact. However, all the fanfiction and fanart that I've seen explores Violet being an adult when she has a relationship with Buddy. I ship her aged up with Buddy. So, everything is consent between two adults. Nothing more, nothing less.
But I also need to clarify that Buddy is around 25, not actually 25. I didn't see the official info about characters' age. So, Buddy could be anything by that, he could be even 23 or 24. Important reminder: it doesn't erase what I've typed before.
And I also need to say this: the fandom is mostly okay with the Bob x Buddy ship, even though Bob also saw Buddy when he was a child and his fan (it's the main conflict of the original movie). So, where are the hate comments that you can't ship Bob x Buddy because of the age gap but it's okay for Synlet?
2. Buddy is the villain and Violet is Bob's daughter, the hero, and Buddy has tried to kill her family and kidnap her brother!
Enemies to lovers is a joke, right? The villain's redemption, too, I guess? Okay, the second question is totally controversial, because of the whole Syndrome and Kronos situation (the fanfiction, especially the new one, played it well btw) and fandoms are shocked when we have the real redemption arcs (c'mon, we literally have HTTYD show where villains - the real villains with all their flaws (*cough, cough* Dagur *cough, cough*) - getting redeemed)...
Anyway I don't see any problem with Synlet playing the plot of enemies to lovers, since we already saw examples of such trope with ships in other popular fandoms - "The Cruel Prince" by Hollie Black with Jude x Cardan and "The Captive Prince" by C. S. Pacat with Laurent x Damen. Both Cardan and Laurent were assholes in the first book and both Jude and Damen were pissed at them. Then the plot was slowly attracting them to each other and then both ships get their happy ending, even though they were harsh at the start.
Moreover, The Incredibles fandom already has such ship like Evelyn x Helen that is also toxic like Synlet. But why the first one is acceptable, while the second one is horrible for people?
And if you say that Buddy is the total toxic partner, why ship him with Mirage then? Isn't it toxic as well?..
3. Violet has Tony as her main love interest!
...
And? The shipping never matters for the canon, it's just for fun to see if there are any 'what ifs'. The only person who can affect for the plot and the universe is Brad Bird and only him decides if he wants Violet end up with Tony or any other guy - and I don't talk about Buddy.
Besides, Tony is her school crush and they may break up when they grow up, because - surprise! - school relationships may also end after the school. Why people think that Tony x Violet will be total endgame, especially with the upcoming "The Incredibles 3"?
And - once again - the fandom has such ships like Syncredible and Hevelyn where both Bob and Helen (who are married to each other btw!) are making out with another people. Fans should judge such ships, because you can't ship a married character with another one but his soulmate. Or it works only for Synlet hate?..
4. Syndrome died in the original movie!
AUs still exist, post-canon fanfiction still exists. Once again we have Synrage or Syncredible fanfiction where Buddy returns alive, so why you judge Synlet for?
5. Buddy and Violet didn't interract!
One phrase for you: fanfiction will make it up. For me, it's the plus, because fans can find the way how they will work up together.
And - I know I have touched the fandom's ships so much, but I cannot mention - Evelyn x Mirage exists, even though they haven't interracted. I sense some hypocrisy...
