This is how the fic starts, it's the first part of the 5. And hopefully it'll give you an idea toward the vibe I'm going for, and perhaps give you an idea I can snatch. Or perhaps even one you can do!

Maybe it was stupid to go to his enemy's lair, but he didn’t have much of a choice. His house was over 20 miles away, as was Mighty Med, and he couldn’t fly. It was the closest place he could go without being clocked as a superhero by some normo. 

Even though Tecton ‘always healed,’ he didn’t always heal quickly. Well, immediately. It took anywhere from 2 seconds to 2 hours to heal something, depending on what it was. A broken bone would take longer than say, a stab wound. 

Megahertz was half human, he had to have a first aid kit somewhere. Or at least something that could splint his leg while it healed. 

Megahertz was smart, and as far as Tecton knew, there wasn’t a supervillain hospital, so there must’ve been something at his lair. 

And there was. There was a plastic container that was labelled ‘first aid kit.’ It was mildly concerning, but mostly okay. There was a sewing kit in there, which Tecton understood, but it still made him uncomfortable. There was a lighter, which Tecton did not understand. There was a bottle of half drank scotch, which Tecton did again understand. 

The rest of the kit was fairly normal, with bandaids and antiseptics.

He started looking around for something straight to strap his leg against. That’s when he heard the door slam open.

“What are you doing here?” Megahertz asked, summoning electricity to his hands. 

“I…” Might as well tell the truth. “I was hurt in a battle with Slaughter Master,” He admitted easily. “I broke my leg and I can’t get to Mighty Med.”

“You can fly, dumbass.”

“Not right now,” Tecton said, shaking his head. 

Yeah, smart, telling your sworn enemy how weak you are.

“I just ask you to allow me to heal here. Then I’ll leave,” Tecton requested. Megahertz rolled his eyes and walked over to his standing bed.

“Whatever,” He said. “Just don’t get in my way when I make dinner,” Megahertz bargained. 

“How would I get in your way?” Tecton asked, somewhat bitter. 

“I don’t know, you have a knack for ruining things for me.”

Tecton bit back his laughter and began attempting to splint. 

After a couple failed attempts using a pipe and a book, Megahertz groaned and walked over. 

He walked over and grabbed a pipe. It was thicker than the one Tecton had used, almost the same size as his leg. 

“Cover your face,” Megahertz said. Tecton looked at him questionably, but when Megahertz returned the stare expectedly, he complied. 

He heard Megahertz’s powers activate but didn’t feel anything, other than a couple warm spots on his skin— just tiny pricks of warmth. 

He pulled his hands away from his face when he felt Megahertz’s calloused hands handling his leg. Megahertz had cut a part of the pip out making it so Tecton’s leg would sit in it. He strapped it on gently with medical tape.

Tecton spaced out the rest of the repair, his gaze trained on Megahertz’s seldom gentle expression. 

“I’m gonna go make dinner,” He said before walking off, leaving Tecton’s leg perfectly splinted together. It somehow both hurt and didn’t. The pain was fading. 

“I, uh, thank you!” Tecton called as Megahertz walked into a different room. 

“Yeah, yeah, shut up!” Megahertz called back. Tecton couldn’t help but smile at his enemy’s characteristic response. 

Tecton fidgeted with his rolled up pant leg and the zipper on his removed boot absentmindedly. He didn’t know how long it lasted, but he knew that Megahertz eventually walked back in and placed a plate on the shut first aid tub.

“What?” Tecton asked, ever so eloquently. 

“Eat,” Megahertz answered. “It’ll prolly help you heal or whatever,” He said. Tecton looked down at the plate. There was a burger and fries.

“Is it poisoned?” He asked. 

“Yes,” Megahertz said, clearly sarcastic, “I fixed your leg just so I could turn around and poison you,” He said. 

Tecton’s head was saying not to eat it, but his lack of energy and food in his stomach was leading the way at this point. 

He picked up the burger and took a bite. 

“Oh my goodness…” He muttered before swallowing. “Megahertz, this is amazing,” He said, looking up at his enemy with stars in his eyes. 

“Thanks,” Megahertz muttered as he walked back into the kitchen, presumably to get his own food. He returned, balancing a plate on his arm so that he could carry two glasses of water, one in each hand. 

He sat down on the floor across from Tecton, putting his plate on his lap and the glasses on the first aid kit. 

“Didn’t know if you had allergies or preferences, so…” He trailed off, looking down at the food he’d prepared. 

Tecton spoke, but his mouth was full. 

“Gross. Swallow, then speak,” Megahertz said. Tecton nodded apologetically and followed Megahertz’s instructions. 

“I have preferences: this. This is so good, this is my preference,” He said. Megahertz repressed his smile. “I had no idea you could cook.”

“It’s one of the only things I can do,” Megahertz admitted. “I can get groceries for pick-up and no one sees my face, and then the rest of it is just in my house. It’s just a hobby.”

“Why not paint or something?” Tecton asked before taking another bite. 

“I like cooking,” Megahertz said with a shrug. Tecton swallowed and laughed. 

“I do not,” He said. “I don’t think I’ve eaten like… a real, home cooked meal in years,” He admitted. 

“Don’t you have someone who can cook for you? A mom or a girlfriend or a kid or something?” 

“Oh, my mom’s dead,” He said, so much more casually than the topic probably called for. “And I haven’t been in a relationship in a while. My only kid is, uh… aggressive. I don’t think she cooks, she’d think it’s too feminine. Or she’d burn the house down.”

“And you can’t cook?” Megahertz asked. Tecton shrugged.

“I dunno. I guess I technically can, but I’m no good at it. I tried to get better, but it’s kinda pointless,” He said. “So I either eat out at restaurants or buy frozen dinners.” 

“This isn’t the healthiest thing I could’ve cooked,” Megahertz said, looking down at their meals. “If I’d known, I would’ve made something better.” 

“Sure, better,” Tecton muttered as he took another bite. Megahertz let a small laugh slip through as he began eating his meal as well. 

“I’ve never cooked for anyone before,” Megahertz admitted, getting Tecton’s attention. “I mean, not really. Not how I cook now.”

“What do you mean?” Tecton asked, his voice muffled through a half-full mouth.

“I don’t use an actual stove,” He said. He held up his hand, his fingers spread, letting strands of electricity weave between them. “Just this,” He said. “Well, and a pan,” He added, making Tecton laugh. 

“Well, it’s good,” Tecton reassured.

“I could cook for you again,” Megahertz offered impulsively. “If you… wanted…”

“That sounds amazing!” Tecton exclaimed. “No poison though,” He said, half-joking. Megahertz smiled.
