Prompt: #23 "This time, do as I say."
Fandom: Good Omens
Word Count: 223 words.
Summary: Newt is developing all sort of skills.
"I was doing as you said!"
"Then why did your radio pick up the Russian station and not the London one?"
"I don't know, you're the teacher," Newt said in a shaky voice, trying to hold back the tears. Boys aren't supposed to cry, everyone knows that. Boys were also expected to build radios that picked up local stations. He wasn't very successful with that as well.
There were a few things he was good at, just not the things typically expected of boys. His cakes were scrumptious, his knitting skills were wicked, and he was sought out by all the girls in his area thanks to his excellent fashion sense. Sadly, all those skills were not encouraged by his mother.
He returned reluctantly to the radio in question, checking its wires once more. They were, indeed, tangled and misplaced. After carefully fixing it and returning the blue wire to its proper position, he tried again.
No radio station from Moscow, Sydney, or any other exotic place was heard this time. Instead, they saw darkness taking over the street, the result of a power shortage that was caused by his efforts.
As his mother entered the room, she had an exhausted look on her face. "Let's just ignore it, Mr. Harrison. The kid should leave it alone and do the things he likes."Â
