I am 20 years old. I will turn 21 in October. Being a 90′s kid (So I remember the 90s) I was born into the the early years of modern technology. I remember my family getting our first desktop computer. I remember when my family got our first cellphone. I remember getting most of the significant technology that we use today. Over my short lifespan I have witnessed great improvements of technology. Huge, clunky and terribly slow desktop computers got smaller and thinner and faster. Soon we took away the desk and added a lap! Cellphones became thinner, but bigger. It went from solid, to flip, back to solid with a touchscreen just in my lifetime.
In reference, my parents remember when they first got a TV in their house, and they can recall how cool it was to see color on that TV a few years later. Now we have HD and 3D (which I don’t think should ever catch on) and extremely clear screens. Cameras are practically instinct, unless you have a super expensive fancy camera because a cellphone is all you need.
I have seen many positives come from the advancement of technology; however, the rapid evolution of technology has brought many negative aspects as well. I believe the generation gap between the natives to technology and those who didn’t grow up with it and had to learn it later in life is a negative. It has separated us in how we view the world, which causes conflict and misunderstandings. It is difficult to collaborated and work with two very different generations because of technology. It also, caused many people to lack important communication skills as in face-to-face communication and how to interpret non-verbal as well as verbal communication.
Technology and the world has a love/hate relationship. You can’t live with it and you can’t live without it.
